Jebao Cross Flow Pump

If I understood right the CP-40 is supposed to be more equal to a xf-150, not xf-130. The wattage falls right in between the two. The XF-150 is $260 on amazon so you're looking at about half price. It's not the usual jeboa discount, but its still a pretty significant savings. Still, I think at half price I would just stick with maxspect.

Yeah, I was really hoping to snag one of these, but for the price I think Ill get two more Rws...

260 - 180 = 80
260 / 2 = 130
260 / 3 = ~86

So....not half.

Still going strong? I am considering one for my 70 gallon tank. How is the noise level compared to a Vortechen mp40wes ?

I am in no way a Jebao hater. My return pump is currently a DCS9000, and I've used various Jebao products in the past.

I had one of the first gen Gyre 150s on my old 120 and just put a new 150 on my 180 peninsula. I was absolutely blown away by the improvements in build quality and performance by the new Gyre. I was holding out for the Jebao, but am really glad I spent the extra money

Guys, the Jebao is new and like all the other pumps Jebao has released, at first they are in short supply and the cost is very retail. But in a few months the supply line is full and people on Ebay are discounting the heck out of them. I'm waiting for the next generation of Jebao. The WP became the RW and the DC return pumps became the DCT. I expect this will happen with the gyre as well. I may even wait for the 2nd generation.

That's true.

Mine are in W3 (Reef/Wave) mode so constantly ramping up and down. I'd say they are fractionally louder than the RW's which were almost completely silent.

To be fair, I can't fault the build quality on the Jebao cross flows. They are extremely solid. I've not owned a Maxspect, so cannot compare directly, but I specifically did not buy them due to the list of poor build quality and QC issues reported by owners that should never have happened IMO.

I think the new blade design on the Gyre has helped a lot, how is the reverse flow? This is a weak spot with the design of the blades on both the Jebao and the maxspect "non Ruggedised" blades.

Think they have started shipping again as I mysteriously got a shipping notification yesterday (for my original order, which has been delivered).

I haven't stripped mine down yet as have been away from home, but have spoken to those who have and know how to do it now.

I decided the $40 savings was not worth waiting. Max spect gyre 130 = $220. Jebao CP-40 = $180. 90 gallon tank(I didn't need the 150)

3 weeks ago I purchased the gyre and I am very happy with it. I originally couldn't set it over 40% without it beating my LPS to death, but I directed the nozzles upward a little more and was able to increase the power to 60%.

At this power it creates a full tank gyre. It is amazing how much flow I have now. I have a new sand sifting diamond goby who has made this very clear with all of the detritus flying around. The goby never leaves the sands surface when he sifts, but the strong undertow the gyre creates is able to pull up the small particles so that my filter socks can remove them.

I am very surprised that with this much flow in the tank that my fine sand bed has not blown around at all. If you stick your hand in front of the pump you won't feel the enormous pressure that a normal powerhead pumps out. The flow is much more spread out with this pump design.

I have not noticed any weakness in build quality yet, it seems very well built. It even came with spare propellers and guards.

I used to hear my wp-25 revving up and down in else mode. The gyre is silent at 60% power.

Reverse flow is pretty much useless.

I miss the randomness that my WP-25 created on else mode.

Overall I am very happy with this pump. I decided to share my thoughts on it in this thread because a lot of people following this thread are trying to decide between the gyre and the CP-40.(just like I was)

I bought the CP-40 for $137.50 each, the XF-130 costs £215 or $305 each here in the UK. :(

Interesting that the reverse flow is also rubbish on the Maxspect as it is on the Jebao. Are they still sending the original blades out or do you have the ruggedised version?

You sand will settle into a new formation and you can then start to increase the power. I actually prefer a wave action to the constant gyre action. Did yours come with the silent mounts or revised blades?

I don't know if the parts are the original or updated versions. I can say that the pump is mounted on some type of vibration dampener, which seems to be working great.

The pump doesn't disturb the sand at all. My goby is stirring up the detritus in the sand which the undertow from the gyre is lifting up into the current.

unfortunately, the only mode I've found useful is the constant on, which creates the gyre. It has a pulsing mode which I don't find useful(X seconds on/ X seconds off) It also has the alternating gyre mode which goes in forward and reverse; reverse is useless so this mode is pointless.

It would be nice to have some randomness, some gyre action, and some wave action. Maybe this can be achieved using an Apex?

Yes, you can buy an interface box called an icecap interface. They a little pricey for what they are TBH, $125 each and you will need one per Gyre. There really is bigger all clever electrics in them but does allow you to interface with the apex.

This really made the RW pumps for me, so hopefully the Jebao version will be released soon.

I have two pumps on my tank with the wave action, not synced, so I get a lot of movement and some good random flow. I don't think a single unit of either manufacturer will creat enough flow in most tanks, you need something else running to stir up the areas sheltered from a single direction of flow.

The standard blades are quite thin and angled to it looks like a turbine blade. Lots of people have complained about these breaking on the Maxspect, I'm hoping the Jebao are built better, although look similar. The "ruggedised" version on he Maxspects look more like a steamer paddle wheel, only 4 blades, much thicker and angled from the centre straight out.

I was under the impression that they were supposed to only be shipping the ruggedised version, due to the number of breakages, but that was just what I was told. Going by photos on stores, they have either not updated the pics, or they are still shipping with the original blades.

Here's Maxspect's "ruggedised" version

Well I just went to look at the crossflow and only one side is moving. Not sure why that is, but it is. And since I still don't know how to do a teardown, I guess I will chalk it up to $130 wasted.

Suppose I'll contact reefbreeders to see if there is anything on there end they can do.

That's why I'm waiting. Jebao always seems to have some issue with their initial release and then soon afterwards do a V2. They went from WP wave makers to the RW and from the DC return pump to the DCT pump. I'll give them a year and then get V2 and probably save some cash as well. As a regular and long time Jebao user, that's just my 2 cents.

This plus once they are saturated on the market the price will drop 20%+ too
