Jebao Cross Flow Pump

:Saw ReefBreeders at a the Frag Farmer's market in Ct, this weekend. They said they got a letter from Maxspect to stop selling the Jebao product. They had some and sold them but will not be getting anymore , because of the letter. Not sure if they will make it to the states now, because of the letter.

Will have to wait and see!:hmm5:

That letter is just a scare tactic. Until a court sides in favor of maxspect they have no ground to stand on...

Well I just went to look at the crossflow and only one side is moving. Not sure why that is, but it is. And since I still don't know how to do a teardown, I guess I will chalk it up to $130 wasted.

Suppose I'll contact reefbreeders to see if there is anything on there end they can do.

They're actually pretty easy to strip down (I have now stripped the rotors down also). I suspect the drive coupling isn't properly engaged as both rotors are driven from the same shaft.

I would check that the cartridge is fully pushed into the motor.

Here's how to strip them down:

You can remove the end caps with a bit of practice, however I find it easier to slightly bend the mount which releases one side of the pump from the mount, held in with a rubber vibration absorbing mount. (you can then release the end cap much more easily.

Pull the rotor cage/cartridge straight out of the motor, here's one side of the drive coupling:

Here's the motor end:

You can remove the coupling from the rotor side with your fingers, or gently with a pair of needle nose pliers (it just slides off the ceramic driveshaft).

To remove the rotor from the cage, stand the cage on it's end with the motor end facing down. You will see the ceramic shaft, sitting in a ceramic bearing with a vibration absorbing rubber mount surrounding it. Gently, use the end of the needle nose pliers to push the shaft and bearing down, which pushes the rotor and end cap out. Pull the rotor out.

Here's the exploded view:

Pt 2 coming up...

Pt 2...

The rotor has a ceramic driveshaft which sits in ceramic bearings. When stripped down, it looks like this:

Here's the rotor on its own:

Replacement is the reverse, replace the bearing on the end of the rotor shaft and gently replace into the cage.

When installed, look closely in the end. Note the position of the two lugs at either side.

Match it up with the indendations on the end cap and replace it. (there will still be some movement of the rotor side to side in the cage.

Reverse the above to re-assemble. There are little rubber lugs on rubber mounts which hold the pump in the cradle/mount, just make sure these are aligined with the indents on the mount. Replace the end caps.

Thoughts: The blades on the rotors will bend if you really push on them, although the whole rotor is pretty solid! I'd be impressed if anyone manages to break them unless they really try to.

Hope this helps.

Well reefbreeders is doing me good by sending a new unit. Sending the damaged one back. Just gotta wait for a new order to get the new one.

That's a shame. I've been considering getting 2 Photon32 leds and 2 Jebao crossflows at the same time somewhere down the road a few months. And ReefBreeders doesn't sell Maxspect stuff anyway, do they? So why should they care what Maxspect thinks.

Because they r a small business without any legal consultation otherwise they would know those letter are garbage and maxspects has no legal rights to that product.

Reef breeders is just overpriced eBay products anyways. They double the price and add a warranty.

This product will be on eBay in the next few months anyways

That's good news. Did you manage to have a look and find the problem?

I did not find anything wrong with the rotors at all. All seems well. As far as the motor goes, I don't know. I'll probably just leave it be and wait for the replacement that I am now worried I will not receive since reefbreeders has told others they are not getting more, but told me they would order a new one for me.

Interesting, I spoke with them yesterday and they told me they would order a new one to replace my broken one. They actually offered told me they would send order me a new motor, then said they would just order a new one. Guess I'll find out soon.

Just checked out the status of the patent application. No examination yet, but outside third party has submitted references -- including at least some cited in connection with the International Application on which the U.S. application is based; see my post re the patent matter above -- explaining why the patent application should not be allowed. Sooooo, this will be fun to watch.......

Go back and read my post re the patent matter for better understanding of what is going on.

There is nothing wrong with reaping financial benefit from one's valid patent. In fact, a patent system was considered important enough to be provided for in the Constitution. Like all things, it can be misused and abused, but knee-jerk "kill-the-lawyers" reactions serve no purpose.

One of the few times I wish this forum had a "like" button!

Can we not start this patent garbage again. This thread was just recently getting back to the original topic and has actually been nice to read lately.

Lol. Makes me happy!!! I just find it interesting is all, partly because I don't know all the law and I'm intrigued by it. Other than that I have no horse in the race to say!
