Cross flow impeller has been used to move water for ever. U think some little pump company can monopolize it now?

I just used some topple ware to make a chaeto light, do I own the rights to containers in general or maybe light bulbs

Talk to maxspect about patents, but what do most ppl care about them for, tunze has patents and that didnt stop them from coping them.

As i stated, ecotech didnt invent their mp pumps either. Just because they used something from another company to make their prodect useful for something else which yes needs development no mater what you think is fine but when you directly copy another company is the issue.

You are losing your arguement footing here.

Ecotech used magnetics yes but not same in style or application as a stirrer. Unless you just say both spin an object but very dissimilar.

As for the gyre it has already been done. That is why I wanted to see if anyone had any patents. We used small gyre pumps in my labs to keep cell culture and such moving as well as other items for the animal lab. In all instances they were submerged and attached to a wall though not by a magnet holder. Ours were about the size of the gyre 150 and with the exception of magnetic holder and adjustable cages were the same overall design.

I dont see how they would be able to get a patent on this and havent seen any (again on limited ad hoc searches). With all of the existing pumps I dont see how they would have a leg to stand on and claim rip off either. Sure they brought it to the world of aquariums but that is not a protectable stance. That just allows you to have first mover advantage to try to corner a market.

If it has a patent it doesn't mater if it's been done before. It got patent approval so it must have been unique enough for it's application to get the patent. I don't think any of us talking about this are patent lawyers.

You meant placing as it is not difficult to replicate the action of the gyre with 2 powerheads pushing in same direction.

Sure you lose the reverse but it is possible to create a similar flow (though to get it as flat you might need to put a limitor on the pump cages so they dont shoot as wide impacting the ability of a gyre to initiate.
 
But ecotech didnt come up with the idea like everyone thinks, it is just like a magnetic stirrer just pointed sideways, and yes they did have to research and design to make it work better as a pump so yes it is a new type of pump but the idea has been around sence the 40's.

But keep going with what you think is right im done here.

Hooefully maxspect and hydor win and others finally step in.

Yup, didnt know what a gyre was until all the Jebao gyre talk started. I'll try it once it's out.
 
Nobody cried foul when 100 versions of the same DC return / utility pumps came out under 100 different brands lol
 
I think the fact that we are all arguing morality in a hobby that's inherently vain and immoral, is amusing in itself.
 
From what I can find there are no US patents listed under maxspect at all. There are also no patents under CoralVue. I'll try and do a WestLaw search this evening and see if there has been any patent litigation.

Or how seemingly every skimmer out there is the same.

Or you know tanks that are square glass rectangles and such.

Or having teeth on an overflow

Or sumps

Or filter socks

list goes on and on. No one cares about a copy and competition in this hobby unless it is Jebao doing it it seems...
 
They fear Jebao as it is growing too fast and not supporting any retailers.

Jebao comes to hobbyists through Amazon/Ebay, while the other guys go through smaller middle men who want their cut. Ebay takes %3 cut

Tunze ever produce any patent documents was it all just fanboy crying?
