Jebao Cross Flow Pump

Obviously I don't or I wouldn't have asked it.

most pics online of the xf130 for instance have a stepped ridge near the side of the motor body and the jecod seems to have an angle there instead of a step. The cages also look slightly different in the pics I can see.

I'm trying to determine if it's 2 chinese companies with the idea to use a squirrel cage which is not new or revolutionary, or if it's one company that is literally having whoever manufactures them for maxxspect make them for them too since in china loyalties are nowhere to be found.

I'd say they are similar, but not the same, and definitely not from the same factory/mouldings, so more of a copy of the overall look than a copy of the components.

From my experience so far, they are very good and solid. They are very quiet (without needing a mounting upgrade), a little louder than the RW-8's, but only fractionally - I don't have a Maxspect to compare them with.

The rotors are very similar (not the "ruggedised" ones), but to be clear, it's a squirrel cage rotor, so they are going to. I haven't needed to (or been able to) extract the rotors from the cages, so can't say how solid they are.

I decided to buy the Cross Flow as given the quality issues which have affected the Gyre (put right by the local distributor or not), spending upwards of $700 (in the UK) on Maxspects made no sense.

There are no approved patents involved here. Jebao offers low profit margins. Meaning the retailer cannot double the price on us, so they rather not sell it. That's why eBay will be our best bet in a month or so.

Might want to look into the letter being sent to North American distributors of trying to block any and all sales of this pump in North America, with a lawyer threatening them to come after them for lost sales.

Funny enough, if they were actually fixing the known manufacturing issues versus making customers buy extra parts they'd probably pickup more sales. Ultimately though they'd rather sell you the pump and then sell you the parts to make the pump work right. And outside of the US we've heard time and time again that the support is horrible.

I own three trademarks; Those letters mean nothing. We know USPTO has not issued any patents for this pump. U can send one of those letters to anyone right now. They're just trying to scare u into buying their overpriced product

What trademarks?

Trademarks anf patents are 2 diffrent things. You make it sound like there is no way maxspect will be able to get patents.

Exactly. Cross flow technology has been around for 200 years and no Chinese company is going to patent it now

Of course jebao's team of attorneys researched this before investing millions in a new product

I'm not disagreeing with you in the thought of them never actually landing a patent for this, I'm just simply stating that letter has been getting sent to coralvue distributors and some have had the pump listed and then promptly removed. I don't think it's a matter of are they making money or not

Well... This sucks. I ordered a CP-40 from Billy's Reef connection 5 days ago and I just got an email from them with this message.

"Due to a supply issue we are unable to fill this order. I will be Issuing you a 10% voucher off your next purchase and a full refund."

Oh look a new discussion on patents... lol

Reef breeders is saying up to 4,250gph which lines up with the reduced wattage compared to the 50watt maxspect gyre.

So jebao changed their magnet mounts just for the heck of it then? Nothing to do with hydor i guess sence who would be able to patent magnet mounts.

Please don't degenerate into the legal stuff again! Please!

Let's focus on the product and how to test/verify or design flow with it.

You know... The stuff our corals care about.

Outside of the US, you can't apply for a patent for a known invention - which is to say, once you've announced a product (or launched it) it's too late to apply for a patent. You have to apply for a patent while it's still in development.

The US patent system is different - you can apply for a patent here after announcing or launching a product, but such a patent would only apply within the US and is therefore less useful/valuable (especially for a foreign company with significant international sales).
