LOL, the first piece of music I liked on the Splice video editing app I used... Perhaps that means that I have a secret desire to be some sort of vigilante super hero... Need to think about costumes..
Just checked the name, it's called "A cold story"... Oh god.
Actually I do need to change the flow a little, the undertow is no so strong in the middle of the tank that it is pulling down airbubbles almost to the bottom!

I own a Maxispect Gyre XF130 pump made by CoralVue and I can tell you one thing it's the best pump hands down that I have EVER ran or bought in my system. There are virtually no dead spots in my tank and I only run one of these which no other pump can do. Also, it gives you evenly distributed flow rate throughout my entire aquarium which mine 120 gallons. I can't even turn it up full blast, that how strong this pump is. Other pumps, you will get dead spots, Very strong flow in the center and not equally distributed like the Gyre, very weak flow near the other end of the aquarium. To me it's worth the $200.00 I paid for mine from BRS. If you don't properly clean them, yes a course they will run like crap but if you take good care of it and clean it in 1 part Vinegar - 1part water ever 2 or 3 months you will be good to go. I'm on my 4th cleaning and my XF130 and it runs like the day I bought it. I own a lot of Coral Vue products and I have never had any issues with them as well....

Ignoring the fact that the Maxspect Gyre isn't made by coralvue, I run an XF150 in my 40 breeder. Great pump, but definitely leaves dead spots and requires additional pump(s) for a full SPS tank. In fact I have a second 150 on the way.
No way a 130 is enough for a 120g SPS tank on its own.
This is all for a different thread though.
Personally, I would say get two or use in combination with the RW's. The reason being is that the flow in one directional with a single pump, depending on which end of the tank you mount it. This will create areas sheltered from flow where detritus can collect.
I have mine 10cm under the surface, you can mount them deeper and angle the flow wherever you like (each side is independently adjustable for flow direction). I have seen some other tanks looking really good with the pumps mounted lower down.
The flow is different to propellor wave makers, it's much wider and in gyre mode, you actually get momentum built up through the whole tank. Everything seems happy, although you don't need to run these at very high power.
All good so far. No issues, I have great flow, they are very quiet and a 5mm snail hasn't managed to mangle the blades yet.

One side stopped working. Not sure why. Reef breeders sent me a replacement but it took forever to come in.

Well I finally received my new one and figured before I sent the old one back I'd have a closer look following your breakdown instructions.
Not sure how I missed him but there was a dwarf cerith jammed into the rotor. Didn't break any fins but the ceramic shaft was snapped. So considering my system is littered with these things looks like I'll either have to find a way to cover the rotors or just stuck with my mp-40's.
The upside is that these are pretty easy to take apart once you know how. I also was able to get the motor shaft out as well, also pretty easy to do. I don't however like that fact that yiu need to put undo pressure on the ceramic shafts to take these apart, they are brittle enough as it is.

This is what I was talking about... Dwarf Cerith, hermit crab... I think moving parts need to be in constant motion (very slow during 'off' cycles) to keep these guys away.

Mine were in constant motion. The dwarf cerith will get in there either way. I've had them stop every powered I've ever used. The problem with this one is that the ceramic shaft is just to brittle to hold up to a short stop like that.

I have had mine in for about a week and I love it. I have a 6ft 125 and its only running at about 50%. Everything is moving and no deadspots. My tank is all LPS with a few softies so I don't need the flow for SPS. One thing that's kind of annoying me is I have been waiting for Fish street to release the aqualink t1 to control this thing because there is no night mode. I only want it because of the night mode. But not only have they pushed the release date back, the have raised the price a good amount. I like the pump a lot but I wish I had got the Maxspect gyre instead because this is getting old.
