Two HUNDRED and sixty dollars is NOT half the price of one HUNDRED eighty dollars. Its is an eighty dollars difference and A LOT more then half = $130. So it is a BIG difference from half.

I think the CP40 would be fine on a 75g. I have 2 on a 3ft cube and I am able to dial them in pretty good.

Your math is correct, your information is not. The last price I can find for a cp-40 is $160. Your right, it's not half. But it's close. It's a $100 discount. I apologize for offending you by overgeneralizing.
 
I've seen CP-40 for sale in Georgia at $130 + shipping and in our local club we had a group buy and they were $115 delivered to a central buyer only 2 miles from my house. So I bought 2 of them. When it gets here (next week) I can compare it with the used Maxspect I bought a month ago.

Let us know how well they work. At $115 I think I would be willing to pull the trigger on one.
 
I have a cp40 on my 6ft 120 and it's doing well as the only flow in my tank. I want another but I want more control over them. Anyone find out a way to control them with say a Neptune Apex or Archon?

any updates?
 
I normally use wave 3 with the dial turned all the way up for long pulses but I been experimenting and found an issue. If put it in wave 1 and turn the dial all the way up for short pulses the thing just stops. No error light, the controller stays powered but you can't do anything. If I unplug the controller then plug it back in its fine but if I leave it it that mode it happens again. That's been my only issue in the month that I have had it.

they are on ebay for 140 from California. i have a circular sump where i need more flow, can you place it vertical and it still flow well?

I have run one vertically since day one! November 2014
Only one vinigar bath to date. Still great flow.

Ops... That is with the maxspect gyre
 
Hi All! I've just added a new jebao CP-40 to my new 150 gallon tank (150 cm length) and I've been trying several different modes (the aquarium is still empty - only RO water). What I've found so far:
- H mode is just a direct constant flow which for me is the most useful mode this pump has.
- W1 mode is also a direct flow but just keeps starting and stoping (time controlled by the dial) to form some sort of a wave. Could be interesting for some, but not for me. I don't think this pump is made to make waves like my RW8. It's really a different kind of flow (nor good or bad.. just different).
- W2 mode is the same as the H mode but from time to time (4min to 99min and also controlled by the dial) changes from direct to reverse flow. In theory this might have been the best mode this pump had but.. and I would really like to understand this because in reverse mode I can't see any flow at all through the tank. I don't really understand the point.. hope you guys can help me with this.
- W3 is similar to the W1 mode with the only difference being that with the W1 mode the pump goes to a full stop and on W3 mode the pump just slowly ramps up and down.. could be interesting for some.. I don't think I will be using this mode either.

So my initial thoughts: this pump moves an incredible amount of water on H or W2 mode. There are no dead spots anywhere in the tank and I think that's brilliant! I think I'm going to put a RW8 on the other side on W1 or else mode to help creating random / chaotic flow and it's going to be amazing. Sound wise, the pump is a bit loud than I expected but.. it's still new so let's wait for the break in period.

I would really like to understand the difference between the H and W2 modes (for me the best ones) particulary the reverse moe - it just does not do anything! The water barelly moves.

So far this pump is amazing - great flow all around the tank using H mode. Hope to read some opinions on these!

For me the issue is not patents but rather quality control.
Products can be made in China but companies have different levels of QC (even in the same factory).
I went through 12 WP40s in a year and 4 of their DC pumps. I will never buy another Jebao/Jecod product. In the end trying to save money cost me more than had I simply purchased a better pump.
 
Anim8, your experience and decisions are absolutely valid for you. Others have used a dozen pumps with only a single failure or just an increased need to clean. Their experience and decisions are equally valid. There's a separate Jebao rating thread for that discussion.

The old saying applies to me as well....been there and done that.
 
I will. I've been crazy busy since I got back from vacation with a master bathroom shower failure. Now I'm doing a complete shower rebuild, including a complete new shower pan. So I haven't even picked up the Crossflow yet!

I can tell you this much. On the Maxspect the reverse flow is way, WAY less than the forward flow. But in my 180g reef I mounted it fairly high on the side glass so the stronger forward flow run along the top of the tank and it's set at 30% and is pretty intense. The reverse flow runs toward the bottom of the tank and is set at 60% but the flow is quite gentle. I have a wall hammer about 12" away from it and below it and it seems OK with the flow.

Have you tried the new rugged blades in the maxspect? It improved the reverse flow on mine quite a bit. It's still nothing like the forward flow of course but I can actually tell the reverse flow is doing something now. It also improved the forward flow as well.
 
when the pump reverse, it reverses the rotation direction right?
do you know why reverse is weaker than forward? is the rpm slower or just the propeller is designed for forward and not as effective on reverse?
