Jebao Cross Flow Pump

Actually the moulds and components are different. I have a pair of CP-40's which haven't missed a beat yet. The Maxspects are manufactured in China, by a Chinese company (Maxspect), so this isn't a useful comparison.

I bought the Cross Flows over the MaxSpects as a test to see if they were any good and if paying two/three times the price was worth it. I have to say having spoken to a couple of Gyre owners who have also bought cross flows, I'm happy with my decision.

They have reported the build quality is at least as good, if not better and the Cross Flows produce marginally more flow. (I don't think there is much in it TBH).

Just waiting for the Apex integration to come out now which is my only real niggle.

Isn't jebao also a Chinese company?

I didn't understand that either, they are both made in china so how is that not a useful comparison? yes they use diff molds to make each one but they can still produce the stuff in the same factory. maxspec may have a diff area where the pumps are built though that has a more strict QC. hard to say unless your there as I doubt any company is gonna give you the answers.

yes, that's the idea.
I take it you have a center overflow (and not coast to coast). So I don't think there really is any place that can be perfectly symmetrical other than in front.

I agree. Lots of companies in China do the assembly process, that's easy. But who do they buy there parts from? Maxspect and Jebao could buy pump drives or magnets or plastic parts from the exact same company, but they don't have to be the exact same part. Sure Maxspect can be completely honest and tell you the truth, that they 'build' the Gyre at their own facility. But I'll bet serious money they don't do the plastic casting, etc. They just do assembly. I'd say it's even more likely that Jebao makes their own pump drives and Maxspect buys from somebody... maybe even Jebao.

It doesn't look like they are in big hurry to have apex support. They are pushing the Aqualink T1

I thought the same, so I checked with Eric - looks like it's the next on their list now that the S1/T1 are released!

Finally I got my T1 Controller yesterday.
Going to install it tonight. It's been 4 months wait for these wifi controller.
At least it was sent by Fish Street.
One thing I don't like about the gyre is that snails can easily stuck into the propeller.
Otherwise its a pretty fantastic pump.

Make a video! I have yet to find a good one online of the T1

I've got 2 of them but my tank is at least a month away from water

Just dropped in a cp-140 into my 120g tonight. It sure kicks up a lot of debris, guess I need to add a filter sock to the sump. I tried the mode that reverses but I could barely feel any movement in reverse. I have it set to the 2nd mode (wave) with the dial set half way, speed 2 LEDs . What would be the ideal settings for a standard 120g?

Last night I had the cp-40 set to the 2nd mode on the 2nd led. This morning it was on the 1st mode and set to full speed. There wasn't any power outage. Has anyone experienced the cross flow resetting itself?

My CP40 was making weird cricket-like clicking noises, but after running for a couple weeks, it's nice and silent. Throwing that out there just in case anyone else had that issue. I love it, it's a great replacement for my 2 MP10s.

I am still not sure how I'm going to mount mine. I have two right now that I'm hoping will be sufficient flow for my 180....

Yeah, reverse is, IMO, pretty pointless. Have two opposing or another power head at the other end. I think it's the same with the Gyre, although it looks like the ruggedised rotor may be better.

I'm running 3 lights in reef mode on a 4ft tank.

No, in fact I tested and if the power fails, the controller remembers the last setting. I didn't disconnect the power for very long, so there may have been some residual power keeping the settings in memory.

The rotors were not quite pushed in properly. I believe this happens during shipping. A quick look/strip down and re-assemble sorts it, or sometimes it just sorts itself out!

What mount position did you end up with and what setting?

There's lots of options. At the moment I'm running at opposite ends, 2" below the surface with the water pushing straight across the surface and hitting in the middle. This really pulls down a column of water and circulates well with lots of eddies and random flow.

I would have a play around as every tank and scape is different.

I only had it change mode on me that one time. It's been working great ever since. I moved it to the opposite end of the tank because the way my rock was setup up, I had a large open area at the end of the tank that was getting more turbulence from the wave reflecting off the glass. I almost think I could have gone with the smaller version for my 4ft tank because anything more then 2 LEDs flattens my softies. I mounted it with the cord on top, I wasnt sure which side was the top of the device.
