Jebao Cross Flow Pump

Jebao pumps like most of its products are not designed for long-term use. The pattern we're seeing amongst this hobby is jebao pumps and powerheads lasting 6-24months before motor dies. Warranty sucks too. No customer service.

Take it from a guy that went all jebao for his 300g build and half the products sitting on the shelf now with the vortecs back in. Even my cheap $15 koralias have more runtime than these guys.

Another chinese company taking advantage of the americans

I totally understand..I Did really enjoy the 3 that i bought . I will replace them when they come up with a updated version I think..
I am in the process of moving my refugium into our living room under the display tank. its a 90 gallon tank instead of the 55 gallon container split .

i was only teasing about them sending you used parts by the way...

I know.

And here is a side note. I got the Crossflows from a friend in our local club and I thought he was getting them from Jebao. Turns out he got them from Reef Breeders during the short time they were selling them. I texted my friend and he sent a request to Reef Breeders and in less than 5 days from my text, I got new wet sides for my Crossflows! That's good customer service from Reef Breeders!

Nice that you can speak on behalf of the those "amongst this hobby".

I still have Jebao original WP40 wavemakers, and I have newer ones as well. The old ones were lame, the new ones are much better. I have 3 original DC12000 and 1 original DC6000 return pumps and have not had a single failure!

I'll agree they are not a user friendly company and they build to the minimum level of acceptable use, but they still sell don't they? Because they aren't charging double or triple the price for a unit that is only marginally better so a few US companies can make big profits. Soap box mode off.

ok, just an update. Original cp 40 died with red light of death. Was 3 months old . Contacted ebay seller i bought it from and he offered me a new motor for $15 bucks. I was gonna walk away from it until i said to myself im already in some money lets try it. So i received to my surprise the entire new pump portion including motor rotors, cages and bracket. Minus magnets and electonics controls. After a quick swap of old magnets i decided to test it. It has been running in a slop sink for 5 days.

Here is the trouble, unlike my cp25 which i purchased from a different ebay seller. This one has a power wire that looks like it backwards, in other words it goes to the bottom of the unit and is not pretty when you a trying to disguise it.
And for some reason it spins faster and moves more water in reverse than forward setting. That can't be correct. SO i slowly dissected it and attemped to reverse the cages and rotor assembly as a unit. one side for some unknown reason would not go on like the other and slowly want to come of with movement. So i default to original setup and ran it for 1 solid day. All worked well. Last night i thought i should flip the rotors around and keep the cages to their original position. Well didnt work. Rotors got stuck and spurred red light. After a careful process of dismantling and reconnecting, science led to frustration. I somehow have have the wire comming out of the top and strong pulses of water comming out of the bottom ?? of the rotor when viewed from the top. Anyway still doing sink testing, if all goes well it will go into the tank.
The new motor does have different rubber bushings on it where it attaches to the rotors and they are rectangular in shape. As compared to the older ones.
Let see, i will post progress. Anyone thinking of buying < wait until i post a few weeks of results with the new 2017 motor as they call it. Hope this helps.

I got the same set of parts, the entire wet side less the magnet. Mine are both running OK, but if you don't get the cages and impellers just right they jam up the motor. It just doesn't have enough torque. I can play with them and make them run, but it's just not anything I would recommend to anybody.

I had a guy asking to buy one and I considered it, and then decided not to go through with it. It wouldn't be fair to sell something I know is really junk, even if I've told the buyer it's junk. Besides, if they fail again... HA, when they fail again, the magnets will make for seriously solid diy frag rack mounts or a magnet mount for a bigger coral to be held to the glass of the tank like a super magnetic frag plug!:eek1:

LOL came hear to read about the cross fit since i own the maxspect gyre which hasn't stop even though i don't use it any more. Don't like having only one of these units on a larger tank with a lot of rock. Planned on going with the crossfit but not any more. I've had other jebaco motors crap out and shock me and my fish. When will us consumers release we should support quality company's that don't try to copy and sell sub par products. Well i guess with the internet everyone trys to save and shop to be one over on the originals and better quality company's. Have multiple failures in this thread (which there are a ton) would / should make anyone not support this type of copy cat.

True to a point. But I have Jebao wavemakers and Jebao return pumps that have been just fine. That's why I gave the Crossflow a shot. I'm in SW Florida too, if you want to see mine, the new ones are still working after 4 to 6 weeks!

I'm all for trying to save money but it's pretty clear these are more hassle than what they are worth. I own some Jebao return pumps and wavemakers and all work great. I just don't see me buying one of these. If I have to keep buying new ones or constantly asking someone to send repair parts then there is no real savings to me honestly.

I can just spend the money a buy a maxspect gyre and be done with it. Yes, the intial cost is more expensive. I think the fact that ReefBreeders stopped selling them should tell you something right there.

That's exactly what i was saying too. Totally give maxspect the credit they deserve for all the r&d since mine's been flawless and i got mine as soon as they came out which is a while ago.

Regarding reefbeeders , agree when Jebao irons out the bugs the will restock them. Not sure about copy right infringements since Maxspect seem pretty ****ed, believe it took a while for them to release it since they worked on their patents etc so this wouldn't happen. Chinese coping Chinese well they all all made there anyway, that's a tuff one.

What is more interesting is Ecotech Vortech MP pumps have never been copied (don't really like the noise they make anyway). Wondering why aren't copied what do they have they the Chinese can't copy them?

Don't want to necro/bump the thread but wanted to update.

Bought my cp-40 8/30 and today (2/8) it seems to have died.

Not sure if its the controller or the wet side -- both are question marks for me.

If I plug the power into the controller it sparks (!!) then turns on -- but nothing spins.

Disassembled the wet site, can manually spin the thing and it sometimes does a few rotations on its own then locks up and red warning light pops on.

Contacted seller today; will see how the 1 year warranty works out =)

I had several early Crossflows and they all died of motor failure. They were all free to spin manually, but they did nothing when powered up. I had 2 different sellers and they both did replacements of the wet side. All 3 have been running OK for a couple of months now. IMHO the motor is just way too low on torque, but I think the newer ones are better than the original version. It's very typical of Jebao new products.

My CP-40 died after 6 months of use. I could sometimes get it to run by manually turning the motor shaft, but more often than not I'd just get the red light.

I contacted the seller and he offered me three choices:

1. Return the pump at his expense and he'd give me a full refund.
2. Keep the broken one and he'd send me a factory refurbished one.
3. Try a new pump that he just started to carry; it is similar to the Jebao prop pumps but isn't made by Jebao.

I chose option 3.

The pump I got is a Hsbao EW-38. It is similar is size to the Jebao RW-20; pumps 13,000 L/h / 3400 G/h; has an LCD display; and can be synced wirelessly to up to 8 other pumps. I've just been goofing around with it so far, but it seems pretty good.

Sorry to derail the thread, but here's a crpy video of the pump in action. The tank is 2 x 2 with about 7-8" of water in it.

Has anyone managed to get the CP-40 working again?

Maxspec has licenced a manufacturer to produce knock-offs of their Gyres. They hit the market here in Canada about 2 weeks ago and sell for $199 Cdn. I guess that they are trying to outcompete Jebao.

After several first generation motors died on me I got the new gen3 motor installed and pumping. Couple of differences is the new generation motors have a different coupling to the rotors, the rotors seem to be more sturdy as well. But it doesn't pump nearly as much water as the old motors did. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Anyone else notice this with the new gen motors?

So my cp40 still worked but some times would. It restart in w1 mode. All other modes worked fine. Seller kindly sent me a new motor. So far so good

The new one (G3) seems to have more broad rather then direct flow. (Doesn't feel as strong with my hand right in front). Other wise seems the same so far.

Glad to see more feedback.

I sent my pump in on Saturday and had a replacement Thursday so happy with the quick turn around from the ebay seller.

I had been running it in the forward/backward flow mode and I wonder if that causes excess wear on the motor due to having to switch directions like that?

Anyway; new one in and working fine like the old one did originally. I do have to say, when I took apart the old one I was really surprised to see that the motor shaft was plastic. Seems like a design prone to breaking.

Is there any way to tell what generation the motor is?

I've had the Maxspect Gyre XF150 since it was released and have had no problems with it until now. The power cord near the motor have started to burst and I now wonder what pump to replace it with.

Is the CP40 they sell on fish-street the same crap as a lot of you guys have had issues with or is the problems fixed?

What do you recommend? Jebao CP40 with the Aqualink T1 controller or the Maxspect Riptide Gyre XF-250?

I had a LOT of issues with the early CrossFlow pumps (3 failures). However, I have gotten replacements for them all and they have all been running just as good as my Gyre has. No issues.

They all have motors that are quite low torque and therefore do tend to get stopped when algae builds up in the cages or even if the cages are installed wrong and create pressure on the motor to run properly.
