you can get sedra pumps without there stamp on it for about $25 and the needle wheel impeller for another $40 saving you about $50 on a sedra 9000.
check it out here.
Unstamped

and the needlewheel.
here.

For those looking for the complete needle wheel kit here is the link

Wasn't that easy to find.

Ordered mine last week (The Jebo Skimmer that is) and it should be here Thursday WAHOO!!! Thanks for the tips on this one!

I think I will buy the official Sedra 9000 though - once you add in shipping to both your really not saving all that much and the outlet on the Sedra is 1" where as the WP4 is only 1/2"

When hadn't heard anything from them in days, I thought my aquatraders order was placed too late ... thogh I just received confirmation that I managed to pickup two of the 520's! One will feature an OR 3700. ;)

Now for the big news is I emailed http://www.cjspets.com, a JEBO distributor and they said...

"Unfortunately, the 520 was discontinued prematurely in July of this year and replaced with the PS75 which has a new body design and venturi system that most certainly would not fit the 520. Best of luck, I hope you can find one."

That's great prompt service I haven't gotten with any of the other inquiries I've made.

When I asked about PS75 retail availability I got another very quick reply!

"The PS75 has quickly become a best seller, I know I am currently out of stock and will be until mid-January because of the high demand for these. I would venture to guess that there are still some available in the US from internet retailers and high volume stores but I don't have any leads to give you for someone who HAS them in stock in Ontario. Thanks again.

Sadly Google doesn't return any matches.... yet. ;)

Kudos to CJPets.com though.

I would think the Oceanrunner 2700 would be the right size for this skimmer. Would the 3700 flow too much and reduce contact time? Same with the Sedra 9000, I wonder if it is too much.

Compare with what ASM and Euroreef use with there skimmers of a similar size.

I appreciate the concern and that comparison makes alot of sense. I'll try to track down a few ASM/euroreef clone builders to get an idea from them.

Having said that here's what I'm thinking, please let me know if any part of this is entrly off base as I am a newbie:

1- The 5200 pump Aquatraders recommends puts out 840gpp and a max head of 12 feet (so they claim). PremiumAquatics says the OR 3700 is 900gph, the max head is 10.7 feet.

2- Aqua Medic uses the 3700 is in both their shortly (22" - 29") and single 5000 (40"+). I'm not sure what the comparative width of those models are, so your comparison to ASM/Euroreef may be more accurate.

3 - Once I have the pump setup on one body, if it's too strong I may also try sherm71tank combination mod to lengthen the body. I think I have room for at another 6-8" under my tank, at least 28" in total.

You are right about the Sedra 9000 being to much for it. With the way I did mine ( combining two units ) it runs a bit over maximum volume of the skimmer ( I get a bit of bubble return ). I dunno what I was thinking before about using a 9000 on a single unit. Thanks for keeping things straight! I also am wondering how much air these things pull and how close to the same the WP4 and real Sedra are to amount of air pulled in. This WP4 just literally HOWLS from the air inlet tube.

The new WP4 pumps have 3/4" and 1" hose barb outlets on them. :eek1:

It sounds like the Sedra 5000 or the Oceanrunner 2700 is the way to go.

If you have a bigger pump you might have to throttle back both the air and the water flow.

Where is the best place to get a Sedra 5000?
I know Champion sells them with the needle wheel as ASM replacement parts.
What do they run?

if you remove the venturi that comes with the skimmer what is done to the small piping that remains? Can that be drilled and used as an entry point for a feed line?

I am thining of using two gen x pumps on this the GPH will not exeed 530 and I will DIY a needle wheel impeller on both pumps. does anyone see any problems with this plan?

man I thought about this like 5 months ago- following along please keep the pics comming. Especially those who are doing the re-circ mods.

I removed the venturi ( it just slides out and is sealed with a couple o-rings) and used standard pvc parts to get to a 3/4" hose barb fitting. No need to drill it.
