Kessil A360WE

Wesley, thank you for the tip! I was going to order an ATI 6 bulb 24'' fixture this upcoming Tuesday, but now you have me thinking about 2 of the 350W. What worries me about going with the kessils is the light penetration itself. Monkie reported a low PAR value in 22'' depth of water, whereas with the ATI, I don't believe that it will be as much of an issue. Thoughts?

Your welcome. I just did a par test with two Kessil A360WE over my 90 gallon tank. I tested them at 50%, 70% and 90%. I would have to agree that the Par readings were not as much as I would have liked (I am at work so don't have them right now) but as stated it is hard to really know what Par is with LEDs. I heard that you should add 10% on to what you get, but don't really know for sure.

All I know is that Kessil claims that no matter what spectrum you visually like, their lights will provide the appropriate light for the growth of corals. The LFS that I go to has Kessils (A350W) on his display tank and on the tanks that he sells from. The intensity is at 100% which I will be working my way up to. His tanks are beautiful so I am not to worried about Par readings.

Don't get me wrong ATI fixtures are great! The only thing that I would miss after going with LEDs is the shimmer and being able to fully have a sunrise/sunset unless you are going with a hybrid, which is more money.

Just got my kessil spectral controller hooked up and loving it. Much nicer and easier now since I dont have a reef controller like apex.

Wesley, I do enjoy the shimmer effect all too much. As it was pointed out the A350w fixture can be bought for around $250 but you cannot control the wavelengths of this light correct? You can only change the intensity? I'm just not one for the washed out, deep sea blue look.

The Kessil 350 has to manual adjustments. One for color and the other for intensity. The color adjustment allows you to adjust between the blue and white spectrum. As such, you do have control over color.
You can read about that on the Kessil website as it's mentioned in the 350 page.

I have 350s on my tank too, and you can definitely adjust the spectrum. One knob is white, one is blue. You work a balanced ratio between the two for color, then turn them up to find the intensity you want. It's like having adjustable white/blue channels on any other LED setup. I'm definitely happy with my 350s. I went that route for the overall cost savings and am happy with the decision. I don't have an Apex or really care about controlling them electronically, so I'm happy having to match one light to the other and let my on/off timer do the work for me.

Thank you and thank you! I'm just going to go for 2 of the 350s and when the time comes jump up to a Kessil 360

Great choice, you will not regret your decision! I have a 20 gallon nano that I am going to be switching to Kessil as well. I was perfectly prepared to put a 350W over it, but found a spanking deal on a used 360W (3 months of use, not E series) for $280 so will be going with that. ;)

Super excited, I have a 110 Mixed reef, mostly softies/shrooms and some monti's.

I was using Chinese blue/white reefbreeders style, and now have two 360WE's with mounts and a Kessil Controller on the way, should be here Saturday :)

Congratulations! Post up some pics once you get them installed!

I need information on intensity settings on my 3 -350we over 180 mixed reef .What is everyone running theirs at ? I understand it would depend on height and what you have in the tank just trying to see how others have been doing just started reef a couple a months ago .

I started my 90 gallon at 50% . Now I am at 75% after a couple of weeks. I feel I still need to go higher to support the sps I have at the top of the rocks.

Here is a 3 part LA Fish Guys episode covering my install of 8 Kessil 360WE's on my light rack and the setup with my Apex using Apex Fusion. If you view them directly on YouTube, you can watch them in HighDef.

Fun to watch video:) A lot of learning in those three video's!
Your system is killer by the way:artist:

which

which

Current 75 reef wth kessil 150 x4.

Upgrade to 120 4x2x2 tank.
Softie with few easy lps

Will 150 cover it or should upgrade to 350 or 360?

The easy answer use what you already have, four should be fine on a 120.

Second option sell all four and buy two of the other lights, good deals on the 350's, 360's are a lot more coin.

I am curious about how bright these lights are when they turn off at the end of the ramp down process (whether that occurs at 12 or 15%, or lower)? For example ramp down on my ReefBreeders lights is quite dramatic when they finally turn off - even though the controller says '1%' it clearly isn't nearly that low. I'm looking for something that is really very dim right before it turns off.

Wow!!

Up until now I did not know your username Slief was the LA Fish Guys. Love your videos!!

What a beautiful tank!!

Thank you very much. LA Fish Guy, Jim is a good friend of mine. I've known him for over 20 years now. It's always fun having my tank featured and having the opportunity to have the progression documented. I may be an LA Fish guy but he is "The" LA Fish Guy!
Thanks again!
Scott

You wouldn't want to use them for moon lighting, thats for sure. When the color percentage low/blue and the intensity set to 12%, it pretty dim but nowhere near as dim as my 10 Apex lunar sim LED's even when they're in full moon mode. Still the Kessils make for a great sunrise and sunset. It's really just about perfect.
