Kessil A360WE

Simple question....simple answer
To those who have used both AI Hydra or Hydra 52 and Kessil 360we...

I need your advice.... I am about to pull the trigger on my light purchase and I need help in my decision ....

Tank will be simple mixed reef.... Soft and LPS...... No SPS......72x30x20.... Rimless, open top... Public building, church.

I would appreciate any help in decision .

Very nice kav! Now, how bad *** is that, that you can get coverage like that from two little dinky fixtures? Awesome.
 
That's why I'm going to be using these lights on my build. After looking at those two pics, I can't believe anyone would actually try to argue that MH looks better. I mean, look at the difference in color on the corals and the clam! Everything looks brown under the MH. That's unbelievable.

2) I'm getting a 60"w x 18"d x 26"h tank and was wondering if two A360WE's would be enough. It would be a FOWLR so no corals right now. If I did corals later I could get a third but right now not sure if I can afford 3. I saw the post on a 180gal 72" with 3 A360W's and it looked pretty bright, so maybe 2 on a 60" would be ok?



3) From reading I understand that basically the A360WE turns off at around 10% intensity. I was wondering though via my Apex, if I were to ramp it down to min intensity and spectrum at 20k, is it really dim? Almost moonlight? Or is it still too bright?

I'm not sure if the cable is "special". You could try use another cable, I would be carful with the warranty department though.

Two will be more than enough, just mount them higher and when you want corals get one more and that will do it.

No the Kessil will still cut off at 10% and it still bright, I would say mid dawn or less. Def not moon lights.

Mount two about 4-5" off the water and you will cover the entire tank with enough light to grow pretty much whatever.

When it comes to coral acclimation and intensity, what have you guys started with and eventually ended at?

I have a 180g 72x24x24 mixed lps/sps tank that has been running 250w 14k MH's supplemented with two 80w ATI blue/purple plus T5's.. the Kessils just replaced the MH's.

The Kessil 360we's are controlled with an Apex and they're hanging about 10inches above the surface. I programmed dusk/dawn profiles and start with 0 intensity (Color is 15 to 80) and stop at 45 right now. I started with 60 and my blue birds nest and green digitata weren't very happy so had to lower it, but everything else was fine.

I have just find out Kessil is having a big SALE on their 350 series for just 299.00
100$ less !!

Should i get these or jump over to the 360 series ??

How many do you have of the Kessil?

They are mounted kinda high. I think with the lighting you have before you could easly start off with 80% power and chose whatever color you like.

Being 10" from the water I would go ahead and do 100%, but if you dont want to risk it, go 80% for a week.

I started about 80% but revd up to 100 over couple of weeks no problems.
about 20cm over water now did start at about 30 .
 
I have just spent the last two hours reading over other LED sections. In every thread the majority of the discussion is on how to run them. What settings do I use? Intensity do I start with? Am I using too much blue/white/red/ green? How fast do I ramp up/down? How do I get your colors? My corals are brown are my light to bright dim? When do I increase intensity? Why did my corals bleach? Why did some of my corals lose color? Every thread seems like the same thing. They report browning and bleaching, also some corals look ok and others look bad, some grow some don't. Same thing over and over: I'm havering problems! What am I doing wrong? I'm talking about Radions, AIs, and as many others as I could read. Has it occurred to anyone that maybe the problem is with the LEDs?

I haven't read anywhere that someone had these kinds of problems. Have you?

My corals are doing great! Mine are running 100% for 9 hours and never bleaching or browning. Now growing and color has improved since I bought them.

My Duncan sprouted new polyps.

I have a 180 tank and have left three E.Shine 60W CREE fixtures in to supplement my Kessil a360WEs I just got. I removed three E.Shine 108W 4Gs to make way for the Kessils. I am not sure if I should be starting the Kessils at 50% as people say I will burn my corals if I start at 100%. Seeing as I have removed 108 watt fixtures to make way for 90 watt fixtures I am not sure if this is required or not. So far at 50% I am not satisfied with the Kessils. I have tried setting them at 100% for a while and they aren't bad, but not as nice a color as I was getting with my E.Shines. I have the Kessils set at about 50% on the color wheel, my CREES are set at 100% royal blue and 30% white. Any higher on the white and it washes out the shimmer. I must admit that I do love that shimmer. Still tweaking my settings.

I think 50% is much too low especially considering you already had powerful fixtures before. However the Kessils are extremely efficient and wattage isn't a good measure of comparison. I think you should start around 75% and bump it up 5% or more each week till your at 100%
 
My tank is about to cycle and I installed my kessils. 2 360we and 2 150w deep ocean blue.

what setting should I start it at when i introduce my first fish? I want to keep the tank blue. shall I keep all 4 blue and keep intensity at 75% too? there won't be corals yet, just a few fish and CUC

Whatever you want to look at. Anything over enough light to make the tank pleasing to look at will be a waste of electricity until it's cycled. You could cycle the tank with no light.

Each tank is a separate set of variables. Vast generalities about what will happen at any setting are just speculation.

You clearly are looking for a certain aesthetic. Start at the lowest settings that achieve a look you're comfortable with and watch what happens to your corals.

You can't run the mix of lights that you've got and take advice from anyone that's anything more than a guess because you've created an equation nobody else has.

sorry I meant when I introduce the fish. Corals should start off at low light and slowly increase. Is it the same for fish?
