Kessil A360WE

I wanted to let everyone know how great my experience has been with Kessil's customer service. I have three 360we's over my 180 and one of them was emitting a different color of light compared to the others. I contacted Kessil and they offered to replace all three lights with brand new, in-house tested lights that match. I wasn't expecting them to replace all three lights, but they did.

The turnaround was extremely fast and easy. I can't say enough about Kessil customer service. This experience, paired with such a great product, will definitely keep me as a future customer.

I have one a360we over my frag tank which I like quite a bit. Still trying to get it dialed in (height, intensity, spectrum). But I'm in the process of building a 72 in long reef savvy tank. I'm pretty sure I'm going to put three a360we over it. But, I've also been considering other lighting options. However, with testimonials as above, how can I not go with Kessil!

Thanks for this update. Guess I'll be contacting them soon. I have a pair of mismatched 360WE's.
 
My story is this: bought two 360WE's from LFS, they didn't match up, took them back to LFS, replaced both with two brand new lights.. and those two didn't match up either! I seriously thought I was going crazy and maybe I'm just seeing things. I'm glad to see others in this forum who are confirming this is a real issue.
 
i just ordered 3 kissel a360we's for my 150 gallon mixed reef 5ft display tank, question is I'm coming off of 3 ai hydra's (which after a year of tinkering with them and having bad coral response decided to go with the kessils) where should i start my settings since i already have had leds on the tank? i like as slightly bluer look as well.
 
I would put it at 50 percent. Maybe 55 and you can lean it toward the blue. I would also keep your ai hydra's and use them to augment your Kessils. However reduce the hydra's output to maybe 30 percent. Seems the coral responds to more light rather then higher intensity but fewer lights.

I've got 4 kessils and 2 AI hydras over a 100 gallon square tank. Corals love it. I've got SPS's encrusting at the bottom of the tank and growing fast near the top.

unfortunatly i,m selling the lights to help with some of the cost of the new lights, ill be running them off my apex as well so when you say 50% is that just the intensity setting i assume. I've seen most people it seems around the same for color

I haven't been on reef central for manny years I spend most my time on can reef but I came upon this thread and I thought I would post my results. I have been using a360we for just over year now. My tank is a custom 56"l 24"w 26"d I ran only two a360's since February 2014 and added a third thanks to Santa in December. All my corals started as. 1-2" frags after a tank crash in September 2013. Here is some before and after photos .

How high are the lights above the water and what are your color and intensity settings?
 
just got 3 kessil a360ew's and hung them on my 150 gallon, they look great, only short term problem is i forgot that i had an apex lite and forgot to order a vdm module.. well its on order, but for now I'm just having them turn on and off bye egg timer so its kinda tough to tell what percentage I'm at on intensity but i think I'm around 70%. coming off 3 ai hydras so i had led's on already. all my corals and clams are open and looking really good so far!

All things equal, more light means more algae. Even in a ULN system, blasting things with light will grow more algae than not. May simply mean you need to back off them a bit.

I figured that, I had them at 80% intensity, I backed off to 50% max intensity, light runs from 9 am to about 9 pm.
 
I'm running what's in my sig block over my 300DD, with a reef running down the middle from back left to right front. 2 350Ws and a 360WE at 100% toward the white end of the spectrum in the front and the rear, with the halides down the middle.
Here's the results:


Acropora on the bottom throughout. Ramp up slowly over about 2-3 weeks.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to start with 3x250 MH and 3xa360we.
Do you still get the shimmer from the Kessils when the halides are on?
 
Yes, and also the shimmer from the halides will be there as well. With 250W 14K halides it looks pretty close to a shallow water reef (although not quite as yellow). I have seen 400W halides used on top of this deep of an aquarium, but found that 250W is fine for growing acropora SPS on the bottom. Just be sure to put any deepwater specimens in shaded or overgrown (by tabling acros) areas. This approach has worked very well for me so far.

For my setup it's a good complementary combination. Mine Kessils are all placed near the outer edge of the aquarium pointing slightly in, with one in the middle and the other two in the corners. This gives minimal shading and covers what little the halides miss quite well. Bring up the Kessils for dawn and down for dusk with halides on for the "peak of the day". I based my lighting schedule pretty close to Tonga (about 12 hours) in the summer as best I can with a controller/timer, and use about an hour or so for dawn and dusk within that photo period.

As always, watch any new coral or invert acquisitions for light shock, especially if they've been kept in low light systems or shipped in recently. Start them out on the floor of your reef and bring them up 4" - 6" every 3 - 4 days to give any symbiotic algae a chance to acclimate to your lighting (or acquire a new clade if needed).

Here's a view from one end of the 300DD looking down the length of the reef. In this picture the Kessils would be lining the left and right sides and the halides running down the middle. You can get an idea of the halide footprint from the overflow in the back right corner of the image, and the overall light coverage provided by this approach. It's not this blue in real life (camera phone...sorry).
