kudoras 84 gallon thread

picked up a book to read on monday,

Book of Coral Propagation, Volume 1 Edition 2: Reef Gardening for Aquarists

i am really enjoying it, i am half way through it now and i am really glad i picked it up.

well looks like my two of my birds nest are not happy with the flow, so i might move the power heads around or move both corals and replace them with something that enjoys flow.

it actually ended up in the DT, she is only like 2.5 inches but has a huge personality that rivals the CBB.

edit: i have a 10k icecap bulb in the acclimation tank so thats what she looks like but has a bit more blue tint to her, she looks light blue with yellow in the DT since i have attinics on it.

edit2: if you go a page back i have a vid and she is hanging out in the middle of the tank for a bit.

OK my head hurts after reading every page on this thread...lol
Great thread and nice pics ! Thanks for sharing all your progress, cant wait to start mine.

after a week and a half the temp seams to have settled, the new low temp is 77.2 and the high temp is 78 degrees. So the tank is running a bit cooler then it was 4 months ago when the temp was 80 to 81 degrees since my coralife temp gauge was not reading correctly i had the heaters on even during the day. after i got the RKL the temp is measured better and it has lowered.

wow your zoas look great, and the blue bottle brush is my fav of your tank. the birds nest looks good as well, love those.

you have quite a deep sand bed, are you leaving it that way?

yes i am not planning to change the sand bed atm.

i used to have a GSM that used to move the sand to certain areas, it can be 1" to 5" in some places(right side of tank) but i have a conch and a tiger tail cucumber(that has split so i guess i have 2 now), some supertongas and normal sized nassarius snails that keep turning the sand. i also have all kinds of small reddish worms that tunnel in the deepest part of the sand.

My fuge light went out a last night, after my last one went out i had an extra 65w x 2 PC fixture that with a couple of 10k/6.5k bulbs, a month later one of the ballasts went an last night the other ballast went also. i would just put one of the bulbs that melev recommends in there but i only have a 3.5 inch clearence above the fuge.

So i put the 30 gallon t5 fixture over the fuge last night that runs a 10k bulb as a temp fix. After shopping around all morning i decided to not change anything with the lighting and picked up another PC fixture that will actually fit in the stand. i looked at some of the LED fuge systems but they had really mixed reviews. i have gotten great growth from the 10k/6.5k pc bulbs so if it isnt broke dont fix it on this subject lol

i have some goodies comming in from the DD on sat hehe :)

for the last week i have been dosing lugos in the DT, i can already see some better blue coloration of certain corals :)

a good discussion going on on this thread regarding chaeto and lighting

got an order in from dr foster and smith today with my new fuge light and some other goodies. also got an order in from BRS, they finally got black eggcrate in, i have checked their site twice a day for it over the last 3 weeks, on monday i checked in the morning(out of stock) checked in the afternoon and they only had two 2x2 sheets left so i order them and a years supply of 2 part.

i check up on that thread every once in a while, i do reverse lighting for 14 hours a day. my fuge is 13.5 gallons or so and i have to empty out the cheato once a month, it fills a 2 gallon bucket.

I am out at the base and I have been looking for some Cheato. Do you think I can buy some from you?

Also, How do you like the Swallowtail? I actually have one coming in on Saturday from Blue zoo.

yup at no charge send me a pm about the cheato, she has been great, did you buy the 2 inch female from bluezoo in the collectors corner section?

I had that one in my cart but decided to go w/ the bigger one. The reason for that is because I have an Atlantic blue tang in the tank, and I wanted the swallowtail to have some size to him to help him w/ the aggression. I am planning on taking the tang out when the angel get here and put her in the sump for a week or 2. Hopefully the aggression will be at a minimum.

I meant to compliment you on your tank. Looks really good. Now it is time again to let it grow over the winter.

nice so you got the male they had in there, i had been eyeing him for weeks but him being 4.5 inches my PBT would have had a problem with him.

thanks for the compliment, i just got my new skimmer in so i will have to decide when i am taking the tank down and set it up with a new stand.
