Leonardo's Apogon Reef

can i request some close up pictures on overflow box and returns etc? im in the process of designing my upgrade and i like to see elegant solutions such as yours.

I just let the acro's grow out They have plenty of room around every colony, and light spread, flow etc is prepared for growth of the colonies

It must be the 2D pic making it look like the corals will be crowded very soon...........the depth & the amount of space you actually have is decieving.

Hardware:

10 x 39 Watt T5 using ATI Sunpower Pendants
LED Supplement (CREE XP-E Royal Blue and Blue)

I chose to use many T5's on the blue end of the spectrum because of the large amount of deep water Acropora tables. These seem to adapt better the light in the blue end of the spectrum:

5x ATI Blue+
2x ATI Purple Plus
2x Red Sea True Actinic
1x ATI AquaBlueSpecial
Awesome looking tank! How are you using the LED Supplement on your ATI sunpower? Is it just strips or did you mod your sunpower?

To think you were going to pack it in. The tank is awesome. I'm looking forward to more pictures.

Will try to shoot some more pictures tonight.

Looks great! Love the open look!

a few less cardinals then 80 but still looks good ;)

Thank you! I know, there are six of them right now but I ordered 40 extra. They will be introduced next month after the holidays.

Yaahhooo! I love watching your work. Is that a small pile of sand in the back corner for your Halichoeres Chrysus? I'm currently bb also & used to have 3 Halichoeres Chrysus in my sand days-- they were super cool. I know some people put a tuperware sandbox/bed in bb sometimes for sand sleeping wrasse but I don't really have a good hiding spot in my tank for anything like that.

Thanks! You're right, I have some sand for the Halichoeres Chrysus. They're great fish, hovering above the corals all day searching for (pest) snacks. Because I want it to look more natural then a sandbox I have some sand under the rock formation (that almost completely "floats") Most of it settles under it pretty well, the rest will be taken out out during WC.

This is exactly what the builder did, all glass and a black glass cover. I'll try to make some photo's.

You're right. 2D can be very deceiving. I'll try to make a HD video soon :)

It is a strip between the two Sunpower pendants. (4x39 watt and 6x39 watt) The strip is placed directly above the rock formation for maximum effect.

Thank you everyone for the reactions and compliments!

It should be the mainstream for everyone! Btw How often do you feed your fish? And do you feed your coral with else? Thanks.agam

Please identify for us that large blue table in the forefront of your reef? Its color and form are amazing.

Good Job Leo!

Are the two rocks the only biological source or there are more stuffs in the sump? Like zeo or others..

Looking forward!

You're right! No more internal overflows. I feed my fish 4-5 times a day, in small amounts. Mostly pellet food, and frozen Artemia and Mysis a few times a week.
I feed the corals about once a week with 50-150 micron coral food before a waterchange.

Do you mean the one in the middle of the one more to the left on front? Both are "deepwater" Acropora, I'll determine them for you.

Thanks Rodrigo. The two rocks are the only "biological filtration". No Zeo, carbon source etc. Just fast import and export of nutrients with BB methodology.

Steve, James, Breakbeats; Thank you very much! :)

Without question you have skills both as an artist and as a photographer, but as an aquarist I question the merit of building picture perfect tanks without creating corals that can be regrown in other's tanks. You had a beautiful tank full of stags previously, and now you have a tank full of a whole new set of corals. With several thousands of dollars I'm sure I could recreate the same, but in the meantime our hobby is slowly losing it's collection areas because so few of us are interested in conservation or preservation.

It hadn't occurred to you that he may have fragged and sold some, if not all of the corals from his previous tank? Also, he mentioned he grew out most of the corals in his tank right now... I'm assuming from frags.
