I also got some live brine today. Will gut load with cyclopeeze for in the morning when they come back out around 11 or noon.

the PE MYSIS is much better IMO ,as its whole 1/2"to3/4"mysis without the usual pieces and parts like the others . its very much more nutritious and my wrasses gobble it right up .the live brine works well but just to get them eating in an aquarium environment ,switch them over to frozen once they get settled in .

Thanks. I've had maleagris & bipartitus a week & they're nibbling at hikari mysis, but will definitely get PE brand tomorrow.

New addition (I hope)

New addition (I hope)

Added a very fat female macropharyngodon meleagris Saturday evening from a LFS. Had been there for 3 weeks and eating well.

Acclimated for about an hour. She stayed out swimming for about 30 minutes after a calm intro, and swam around the tank, exploring (not really hunting) before going to bed for the night (I had half of the tank lights out).

I was happy to see her up around 10am Sunday morning. No tank mates we bugging her.

However - around 11am my husband asked, where is she?? She was right smack up front. I pointed to her and boom! In the sand. Hasn't come out since.

I sure hope she reappears soon. All I'll Im going to hear is that I killed the wrasse....:(

don't worry as they use the sand bed for a safe haven along with a sleeping area .many of the burrowers will go under if you come up on the tank to quickly as they are not accustomed to aquarium life but they will be less skittish in the coming weeks etc.

nothing but a thing ! give him a minute ,or two ,or three ...................or a day, or two ..............or a week but he will come out on his own if he doesn't it was destiny as there is nothing you can do ,its the best place for him right now regardless .

Pleased to say that my leopard and peacock appear to have survived whatever the issue was that killed off the choati and potters.

Have decided that I am going to get some more, trying to lay my hands on some prazi before I do though.

I know - one thing this hobby has taught is patience.:spin2:

I only have two big nassarius in the tank. They were climbing the glass after, lights out. I know this means they're huingry. I don't think they'd be hungry if they were chowing on a big fat wrasse. So I think that's a good sign - for now.

an update on my leopard, i forget the type again? he's settled in and doing great now. i still cant believe he survived the 2 weeks of harrasment from my yellow coris. he is the only wrasse in the tank...for now :)

forgive my terrible pictures.

great to hear ! its so rewarding when they do well .i believe that most of our "luck" is based on the collection and well being during the shipping process from wholesaler to wholesale then to the initial acclimation . most will succumb because of deficiencies and the stress put upon them during this time .awesome to hear of the success of yet another beautiful fish ,especially when its a delicate wrasse.

without a doubt they would be best buddies without a problem . i have not had a single issue with aggression from any of my leopards .they all get along which is one of the things that i love about them . the only sign of aggression would be if you get two males in the same tank which i have and they just chase every once in a while .never have either of the males really got serious and done any damage to one another .i would think that it is safe for another ,and another ,and another .

Hi all, great thread. I am interested in getting a partner for my blue star leopard wrasse. From what I have gathered the new one should be smaller and hopefully they would take to each other. Is this possible and does anyone have any advice for making this happen?

well its pretty much here in this tread but you should make sure and start with a good specimen as they are doomed if they are not handled during collection etc. i would make sure that you use a very reputable lfs and decide what you want so he can track one down for you . along with proper acclimation and getting the wrasse to initiate feeding in its new aquarium life will be key in your success.they are tough in the beginning ,after that they get much easier . good luck

Good news! My bipartitus was up before me this a.m., & maleagris surfaced for most of afternoon after being MIA for about 36 hrs! Am feeding PE mysis, live brine & ghost shrimp gut loaded with cyclopeeze, soaked in Selcon & garlic, but they're still just picking at it all. Looks like a good start, tho.
I dosed the tank with Prazipro, too. I've read most of these posts, so figure I'd rather be safe than sorry...How much Prazi do you all use to soak food in? That's next, but I wasn't sure of dosage to use. Any comments, suggestions are greatly appreciated. Hopefully have pix of my girls up soon.

don't pollute the tank in an attempt to get them to eat . i would consider making sure the room is "quiet" and slowly feeding them some of the live brine but after at least a couple of hours of their awakening . when i say quiet i mean leave the tank alone and don't be moving about in front of the tank and even the room if possible .you may be scaring them when your feeding them so be slow in all your moves . remember that they are somewhat skittish and pretty freaked out from being taken out of the ocean and brought to our homes .if your feeding them so many different types of food it sounds as though your kind of giving them to much movement around the tank . tomorrow leave the room alone and then feed them the live brine after a few hours and walk away . you can observe from a distance but give them room . hope this helps and good luck !
