I just stumbled across this thread. I've kept a Macropharyngodon meleagris for a little over 2 years now. I know if goes against the conventional wisdom, but I've personally found it to be one of the easiest fish I've ever kept. Mine even spent the first year in a 10 gallon tank with no problems. Loves PE Mysis and pellets, even nips at the nori sheets I put in for the Tang. Sleeps in the sand at night. Must have gotten lucky with that one.

hey steve how did you miss this guy i just bought from divers den ? he will be here on wed. i cant wait !never seen this one before .

I saw it and decided to pass. There are 10 species of Macropharyngodon and with leopard wrasses, I stick to those just like I only collect Cirrhilabrus and Paracheilinus. But it is a beautiful fish and I hope you will keep us posted on progress.

There's a link to him in this forum... I think most people passed because he's not a true leopard wrasse and it made people hesitant.

moved it and now hes here to stay ,sorry for the bad display of computermenship for the lack of better words .

no prob ill take it ! oh i did ? hand me downs and seconds are just diamonds in the rough sometimes .

Oh, I think it is a great fish, it is just not what I collect. I am quite glad that you purchased it since I know you will give it good care.

leopard turned up dead today, and I haven't seen the bluespotted tamarin today. The china, red tail tamarin, and the potters leopard in my upstairs tank are all chowing down now on mysis.

I was just quoting you from another thread :'(

I have never maintained that price is an issue, what I have repeatedly stressed is that if you look around for "cheap fish" you will end up buying them more than once. Two very different issues.

I was joking in the first place :hammer: But I was referring to the thread where you said,

"Low priced fish don't go into my systems. :blown:"

I agree with you... discount fish come with a price of their own that you pay later. :hmm5:

Yes, I was referring to discount fish from vendors who are using price as their primary discriminator. Thanks for the clarification.

:):lmao:

Thanks for everyone's input and encouragement!
I've got ich in my main tank right now so that is putting a hold on my leopard wrasse.
It is funny how when you think you are picking the "right" fish to find out that you didn't. I spoke with the LFS guy and when I bought my female leopard I passed on the male because he wasn't eating. Well, guess what, the male is still alive in a cubicle without sand and my little girl is gone.
My plan for the next time is actually trying to get several of them together to help the acclimation process. My thoughts are, and please chime in here, 1) juvenile and female leopard wrasses normally congregate in small groups in nature, 2) fish will observe the behavior of other fish and mimic them - if one in the group starts eating, that will encourage others to eat and vice versa, 3) if success rate is 1 out of 3, if I bite the bullet and buy four at once - maybe I'll be elevating my chance of A survival.
Leopard wrasses are so beautiful!
Let me know what your thoughts are?
