Thanks for your reply Steve. I see that u are from Barrington. Is there a lfs that you know and trust? Where do you go? Ive read in prior posts that 99% of the time that these fish emerge to die. Do you find that to be true? I know that they are still alive in there as of now, but how long can these guys last without coming out for a steady food source? And like I asked is there anything I can do to entice them now that their harraser has been removed? How hardy are these compared to the other leopards or do you find them all to be similar. Where have you obtained your successes from? Thanks again!

I buy all of my fish online, almost exclusively from LA DD. As such, I don't really frequent any LFS for fish or corals. There are a variety of reasons for that, but that is for a different thread. My hit ratio with leopards is pretty good, the most problematical being M. Choati, of which I have a pair after trying a total of five. Otherwise, I have lost only one, and have a total of five in one of my tanks. Wish I could be more optimistic for you. It is still possible, but in my opinion, very unlikely.

your wrasse can survive for a couple of weeks under the gravel and he will be coming out at times that you may not be around . the fish have a bit messed up time wise as we are at a completely different time then his home . usually 12 hrs or more so his day is our night and it will take a bit for some to get caught up from this "jet lag" .also you should never attempt to coax them out as they are doing what feels safest to them and you will only stress them more which is a major contributor to their demise many times .let nature take its coarse and try to keep traffic at a minimal when they do come out as they may be skittish at first . i would always have some food ready so you can feed them if they come out but let them be out for fifteen minutes or so ,then they can wake up before you throw food at them .

steve ,choati pictures ? how are they doing ? my monster tank is slowly coming together but i am a bit behind schedule and hope for some time this summer .just cant get focused on it enough but it will contain M choati's ....................... i think/hope !

So prognosis: bad, but there still may be hope?!? Do you guys have better luck with the males or females/juviniles? Would adding a solar wrasse be a bad idea before I see what happens with the two bipartitus? Thanks again guys. Any other threads that you guys frequent? Steve, would you consider selling any hardy frags? Always interested.
Also I am settig up a new 180 built into my wall in the basement with a whole room for back access. I am considering using an xtra 125 for refugium/ frag tank with seperation between of course. I hope to house several leopards and other wrasses in this setup. It will be sps/lps mixed. I would love to hear what recomendations you all have.

until the bipartus wrasses get aquainted i wouldnt introduce the solar fairy wrasse as a matter of fact they usually become territorial and are a pain with community fish .

Happy Suprise!!

Happy Suprise!!

Well, I got up and took my daughter to soccer, returned at about 10:30 am (just about time for the actinics to come on) and after three weeks and one day... THE MALE HAS EMERGED!! I have some pics here, but they are not great because I did not want to scare him off. He has some great coloration including some very nice yellows even close to his tail on the top. He seems to be doing a fair amount of "mouth stretching". Is that normal for wrasses or is that a sign that he has some mouth damage? He has not really ate frozen yet this morning, I was going to try and give him a little more time and try again. Should I try a little garlic in with his food? He seems to be exploring escape routes and maybe looking for food. I am happy to see that he is going all over the tank now and not just sticking around the bottom front like he was the few other minutes he was out before. Anything else that I can do for him? Steve, is there anywhere around our area that has qulity live foods or even carry PE Mysis? Thanks again guys! I am so happy do see him. I hope this is not just his final death march! Could it be? He seems active and reletively happy; not lethargic or sickly. Just a little thin maybe!

the mouth stretching is something that they do .beautiful fish there and i hope he does very well in your tank .the garlic cant hurt and most fish love it so give it a try just be slow around the tank as he is in a very unfamiliar spot right now and its easy to spook him .

Really glad to hear your Leopard made his way out of the sand! If you can't get him to eat the food you have, I would recommend doing what ever it takes to get some PE Mysis right away. You can find it online at Dr. Foster & Smith or Marine Depot. Or just call around to your LFS and try to find someone that has some. My new Leopard wouldn't really eat anything until I got him some PE Mysis, now he begs for it every time I walk by my tank. My Leopard seems to be really content now and staying up for almost my full lite cycle a good 11 hours.

Hey iamwrassman, hope everything is going great with your new display tank and that your two new tamarin wrasses are doing great.

Well he only stayed out for an hour or so. I kept my kids out of the room and I left after sneeking a few pics of him. I have some pe mysis being shipped to me on monday, I hope he will wait. It would be just great if the female/juvinile would come out as well, but I will take what I can get. I know she is still alive in there, just uncomfortable I guess.

There are other companies that sell mysis shimp... Are any of those ok or is just the PE good?

For leopards, I would recommend sticking with PE mysis. It is actually cheaper too given the density of packaging.

Steve, are there any local stores that carry PE mysis? Have you ever been to Steve Schorrs, place SEA SHORE in Buffalo Grove? Would You consider sellin any frags? I would offer to trade, but it sounds to be that you wouldn't really need anything that I have. Also Im soon setting up another 180 built into my wall in mybasement and I would love to hear your advice as to setup, system design(hardware). Everyone really but Steve you are vere close to me 20-25 min. This is not really the thread I know, but I will be housing these wrasses as well as others. Do any of you know of any posted setup schematics that you respect and agree with? I have a clean slate and plenty of room to work with and two xtra 125's and a thirty in which to operate a fuge, frag tank, quarantine, and sump with. Exciting, but expensive!! Thanks again.
What does premium membership offer, is there a thread with that info? Are there any other thread based sites that you all "subscribe" to?(sorry RC)

Just a short update... The male bipatitus came out and extended his stay to abot 3 hours or so this morning and then retreated to an early nap. He increased his exploration area and took a few nibbles hera and there but would not take the frozen mixed preperation I have.(it does contain mysis shrimp). I'd like to see the female too, but I will take what I can get. I know shes still alive in there because I can see her shift around under the sand occasionally.

That is good news and sounds a lot like what my Leopard did. Slowly increased her time out of the sand every time she came out. The difference between PE mysis and other mysis is that they are frozen alive. So when you thaw it out and give it to your fish they are full bodied shrimp with guts and everything and are a lot closer to what your fish are used to seeing in the wild.

Wow, have any of you seen what some are calling a flame leopard wrasse from western africa (macropharyngodon vivienne)? There are pics and some info on another site! Here is a pic but I dont know how big it will get. Does anybody know anything about this. Can I say they other site I found it on?
