Well, ladies & gentlemen..........a fellow reefer was selling a potters that he has had for 4 months, so I couldn't resist.

He's in tank, and he ate, However, this beautiful guy harassed him a bit. If it doesn't get better tomorrow, then one will have to go! This Christmas Wrasse is an extreme "eye candy", though. I shut the lights off and all is good for now. what to do..........................?????????????

After reading all the pages on here & watching a Macropharyngodon bipartitus at my LFS I bit the bullet & purchased one this passed Saturday. Acclimated her as stated and in the tank she went...right into the sand bed. Had not seen her since...until this morning & she was eating! If I had not read the posts on this site, I would have probably freaked, rooted through my tank, & given up on her for dead. Now, I just hope she continues to feed. Thanks for creating such a great thread on this species!!!!!

Alright, guess it's time for me to get up with this thread.

I have not read the whole thing but I am familiar with leopards and their requirements, needs, and care. I've been thinking about getting a leopard in the back of my mind for a while now.

Here's an awesome leopard story, with a lead in to my new leopard.

I work at a LFS and we had an ornate leopard come in about 6 weeks back. We have a DSB tank for fish that sift sand, bury, etc. We put him in and never saw him again. Got another one in about two weeks after that. He buried in the and didnt come out for two weeks. Then he popped out one day, eating mysis, and has been coming out daily and eating well since. Well, at least thats the story we thought had happened. The other day my buddy went in to work and called me to say there were TWO LEOPARDS swimming around the tank, both eating! So the "second one" that had come out after two weeks was actually probably the first one that came out after a month, and the second one came out after a month also!

So I brought that first guy home a few days ago. Like I said, he spent about a month at the store under sand, then about two weeks at the store coming out at day and eating well. I acclimated him straight to the display. He buried for about an hour or two, but was out and eating by that evening. He is still slightly adjusting to my different lighting cycle from the store, but he's spending most of the day out, and eats any frozen I'm putting in there.

Got my fingers crossed but it seems like I've gotten past the first few obstacles. Wish me luck. I am starting treatment of the display with hyposalinity as I've got some ich spots on a butterfly and tang that I cant seem to otherwise shake (so this is essentially a FOWLR right now). I plan on treating the system with prazipro at some point.

i wish you the best of luck ans hope all goes well .i am home now acclimating three potters leopards and a red tail tamarin wrasse . two of the potters are mooses ,at least 4"long

Nice - hope you will be successful, look forward to some pics.

As per the previous post. I have now started to rebuild my wrasse collection. Picked up 4 Peacocks the weekend before last. They are quite small so heavy feeding at the moment, but they see to be in a routine now. All 4 are out and about by around 07:40, when I get home from work around 19:00 3 are still up. They seem to be going to be going to bed (burying in the sandbed) at around 19:30 when the leopard goes, which is just before the halides go out. Just need to the other one to adjust and stay out that bit longer.

A few pics, in the bucket when I got them home

The only picture I have of the 4 of them in the tank together. They do spend most of time in a group of 4 so hopefully one will become a male over time.

Dave, mind sharing your source on the Potters and tamarin? Funny, I was just having a conversation about red tailed tamarin wrasses on my local boards. Good luck with the new arrivals! The two MMs I picked up are still doing well *knock on wood* :D

chad,i got them from my nearby lfs ABC reefs and they get them through Quality Marine so check and see if your retailer orders through there . we ordered six weeks in a row before getting them so they do go fast .
-update one potters died and really never swam ,he was hurting from the get go and i didn't expect him to make it
+two potters are doing fine and both came out today and ate with plenty of vigor ! one is huge ,about 5" long
+the red tail tamrin is also out and eating well also
~pictures tomorrow ,hope i get the time ~
~nice pictures matt and good luck they look cool in multiples !
~good luck with yours chad

Well, folks, I bit the bullet & got my largest divided wrasse yet (5"s) on Monday to add to other two leopards I've had for 4 months (divided & malegris). Newest one immediately took a sand dive & stayed hidden for 3 days. When she finally showed her mug on Thursday morning, I was ready with the PE mysis to feed her. She niddled a bit, but swam around for about an hour, til she saw me get out the camera for pix of all my leopards I've been promising everyone on here. Needless to say, she hid behind rock, then dove in sand. This morning she was just poking head out of sandbed, when I walked by outta bed & scared her, another sand dive for rest of day/night. Maybe I'll stay up watching tank around 3a.m. to see if she sneaks out for a stroll like other one did while getting acclimated to the time difference. I'll just make sure all the PEmysis is ready to go in tank...Wish me luck with this newest moose...! Bill

I added a Meleagris Leopard Wrasse on Saturday, it went into the sand a few minutes after introducing into the tank. I didn't see it all day Sunday, but it was out when I got home from work on Monday. I fed it Rod's food, PE Mysis and Cyclops, but it was still not eating. The LFS had it for about 2 weeks before I bought it, and it's still look kinda fat. So hopefully it will start eating soon. I also have an Ornate Leopard Wrasse in the tank for about 7-8months now, along with a few other wrasses and a Blue Regal Tang.
