Jason ,on the note of bristle worms what is your concern ? i have a fighting conch that is now four inches long and he was a mere 1/2" long six years ago and my wrasses have left him alone but they do decimate my snails and crabs is they get a chance .

I guess I was more on the lines of the sand dwelling/sifting creatures disturbing the wrasses as the were burrowed under the sand. Particularly the bristles stinging the and causing irritations or worse infections.

Do leopards go after snails too? I've been noticing lately that I see less nass snails when I'm feeding my tank and the sands been looking worse.

Jason i honestly dont think that the "natural "processes within your tank between cohabitants will bother the wrasses when buried at night time for sleeping purposes . if you get a new wrasse and keep digging it out of the sand as they are hiding then there will be a problem as that is their safe zone at that time and they should be left alone .also i dont think that most other sand dwellers will hurt them either but usually its the coarseness of the sand or usually crushed shells that will cut their bodies and create areas of abrasions etc which could lead to infections .
BL1 yes some wrasses will decimate snail populations very fast . leopards will when they get larger ,coris wrasses are very notorious for eating CUCs very fast and any taller bodied larger mouthed wrasses will also go after these tiny tasty morsels for sure . for this reason i have no CUC but hundreds of empty shells in a pail from years of trying . the only CUC type critters that i am able to keep are nassarius snails and conchs for some reason . if i buy 50 red legged hermits then i will have 50 empty shellys within a week .

Either way, if you have healthy leopards in your tank, its worth it. They are extra awesome, even by reef fish standards. I doubt they'll give larger shrimp like cleaners a problem unless you never feed. Feed, feed, feed. That's one of the big keys to a healthy fish population of any kind imo. Cheers.

That looks a lot like my changing male... but it seems that the black spots should completely disappear with time. Any experience with that? How long have you had the male and was it female in your tank prior? Mine still seems like its changing and its been over 5 months since it first started.

I saw a Choati that was eating at a lfs, couldn't resist it so I bought last Thursday and picked it up on Saturday. I have him in QT with a tub of sand right now, treating it with Prazipro. He ate some PE Mysis yesterday when he came out from the sand, but went back into the sand shortly after eating.

I am treating it with prazipro for 1 week. If all look good, I plan on releasing it into my 185gal display. What do you think? I read not to QT Choati with copper.

Here's a picture taken at the lfs when I first saw it last Thursday.

Here's a picture taken when I first placed it in the QT, with the Male Watanabei Angel I picked up on the same day.

That's a great looking Potter's! I've been waiting a year to find one, let alone one that nice.

negative on the copper treatment with any leopard wrasse as they have severe trouble tolerating it . usually it will kill them
i have found that most leopards simply are to delicate to even make it through a real QT process .

Well, I managed to find one of this beautiful wrases ( a Macropharyngodon meleagris) at my lfs and purchased right away because it looked healthy, was eating and was on sale for $9.99. I took it home, was acclimated and released into the tank and was seen swining all over and eating from the rocks undisturbed. Then came the night and she darted into the sand and that was the last I saw of her. I waited a week and nothing so I went back to the store last sunday and to my surprise they had another so I purchased it. Well history repeated and as soon as the lights when out it went into the sand and haven't seen it again. Hope that for some reason they are taking a long rest and will come back somehow.

well if you have read this entire tread you would have found thats its perfectly normal . i do know this tread is pretty long so i can understand if you didnt read it all but i wouldnt worry about the first one until week three or four . also many times they do come out for a few moments when your not watching . they may be burrowing quickly when you enter the room . also they come from the other side of the earth and their "clocks" are off so they need time to adjust .

96QTs good luck with the choati's he will be a challenge to say the least and i wish you the best .

Dave,
What do you recommend? Release the Choati into the displace as soon as the Prazipro treatment is up? I usually don't qt leopard wrasse too, they go straight into display. But I just had an issue a few months ago introducing a Bellus with fluke w/o qt and ended up losing the bellus and a few other fish.
