took me so long to demo my tank room. filled two dumpster loads just with sheetrock and some of my wife's crap I hid under it.

"Dad, Mom's in the dumpster pulling stuff out."

 Too funny!!!

Well I got some 2x4's, primer, outlet boxes, clear outdoor electrical box cover, and some odds and ends. Plan to start cleaning up the nails in the studs, framing the walls, and painting everything w/ mold resistant primer.

Wife had a good suggestion. There is a little window down there that will get covered up by the tank room and she suggested why not frame that into the tank room so that I have it for ventilation. Sounds good but I need to measure out how that would work out and other problem is that it is REALLY close to the 58gal. Might actually have to move the 58gal to get it framed in :( I'll measure and see. See the attached pic that was posted earlier of the window

I'm off to have fun

Things are looking good lunch! Wish I had more time to surf everyone's threads and comment, but work is just nuts!!! I'll try to catch completely up next week sometime:lol:

If you read energy's tank thread he states I know first hand also from my old set up that having a wondow in the room is HUGE !!! Winter time you crack it open an bam your heat disapates and less topp off needed. Even in the summer in the hot days it will help throw a fan in it point it outside and it will suck out the heat

I guess the reason I am not for it is that it takes up more of the room in the basement. I think about 30-50sq ft IIRC. The living room is going to be tight (not sure those sketchup drawings are 100% correct...I think they are bigger than real life's measurements) IMO. Also, a bigger fish room won't be worth it w/out a sink and there is no way that I can get one plumbed in as the closest drain is 20+ft away

Having that window would be nice but I planned on drilling through the wall above the block line and having a 4" intake and a 4" output w/ a high CFM fan on it so a window isn't really a huge deal to me. Just means I would have to separate it out for a intake side and an output side and I have to make the fish room bigger.

The biggest plus of that expanded fish room would be that the tank would be flush w/ the wall and viewable from 2sides like a flush corner tank. The way I had planned it it will stick out into the room 3ft and will be viewable from 3sides.

I guess I'm not sure what to do right now. Great suggestion by the wife but I'm trying to be practical too. The other thing I thought about is that if the fish room takes that window there will be NO window down in the living room for fresh air. So in spring or fall I couldn't get any breeze down there.

I need to decide as I want to frame tomorrow as I have all day and could get a lot done.

Opinions PLEASE!!!!

I have a door in my room!! Pretty much all I got done (had to work tonight) and I couldn't decide on the room design now that my wife brought up putting that window in the room. You can see it in the pic. I'll try to sketchup a drawing quick showing the difference.

This is what it could look like

Excuse the left side as I didn't redo the hood from my previous mock ups so it looks a little funny but you get the gist of it

This is a close up of what I had planned. More room in front of the tank but less tank room. I guess I don't plan on using the tank room for much besides hiding the pluming a little. No sumps will be remote they will be under the stand.

You mean business is good? I guess that's NOT good eh?

Looking sweet eric. You are making great progress.

She is a cutie for sure. Love seeing pics of her. I really miss my female of 14 years. She really had a strong bond with me. There is nothing like having a female dog i think if you are a guy. Ahh pits just have strong bonds with there owners.

When I was doing the drywall my dog was eating everything. He took a poo and I say chipped up pieces of a 2x4 wood, an aluminum rivet, and plastic bottle cap.

Melev - Thanks. Hmmm...like the new look huh. I know the sketchup measurements are wrong I must have done something off when I did the sketches. From the front of the tank to the wall will actually be 5'7" (not the 6'1" on the sketchup) I just measured. Not sure how the room will layout w/ the couches and TV. I still need to think this over how it will look, layout, and how the heating ducts and lights will get in the way.

It looks better in the in-wall configuration because it seems to face the room. The other way where the fishroom is behind it, it seems to be facing the outside wall of your home, instead of facing the people walking into the room.

Since the tank is your showpiece, it should be oriented in a way where they see its best side first. jmo.

erics3000 - My little Eve is especially attached to me....granted I feed her, exercise her, and do mostly everything w/ her. My wife does some but not as much as me. Also, like you said I think females bond more w/ the male of the family. She is such a great dog. Took her to the groomer (who has had Eve in about 3 training classes that she teaches) and when she was done she knows how Eve hates the kennel so she let Eve and her Aussie run around in the store for about 15min till I got there to pick her up. Eve is so great w/ other dogs and LOVES people...love the wiggle but syndrome :D

Yeah we thought about this. My boss and I talked about how cool it would be to walk downstairs and see the tank first...but then we figured you would see one side of it and probably wouldn't care if it didn't "face you". Or I could aquascape so the main reef faced the room but the tank would be sideways and no one would know any different?

You need to let her figure out what looks best, and go with it. Girls are good at that stuff, plus it'll keep you married longer. :D

I guess that is great advice! But guys are more mechanical and building orientated :D I guess I was looking out to save her more living room space :D
