Well another wall gone last night :D The wall to the right of where the fish room was going to be. Opens up the other side of the basement. Funny thing was when we bought the house we were excited to see that the basement was 75-90% completed when we bought it and now we are ripping it ALL out!! Oh well for the better of the tank :D

Just thought about this last night. The room right behind the fishtank (in the new sketchup) is currently a storage room and we love having it be a storage room. It will stay this way until we ever move...IF we ever move which will most likely never happen. So this room could be a bedroom if we put a closet and an egress window in but it won't be for now. We have 2 bedrooms upstairs and we will make one down and we don't plan on having kids and if we do not more then 2 so that storage room could just be my fish room also.

What I'm thinking is not having that door on the sid of the fish room and just access it from the rear from that storage room. LOTS more room, no door on the side of the fishroom. That would be way easier to layout and to access. If we ever move I'd just rip out the fish room and set that storage room up as a bedroom for resale...for now...ITS MINE!

Pics tonight

Sweet. I like the idea of more fish room. Can't wait to see the pictures. I have been enjoying this thread a lot Lunch.

Make sure you do have a door to the fishroom from the storage room primarily to keep moisture issues down with the items stored. You won't want saltcreep on everything.

no kidding. I used and exterior grade fully weather protected door for my tank room and it works very well. You can pick these up at HD or Lowes and they are not real expensive.

FFrankie - Thanks I'm glad you enjoy it. Can't wait to see how it turns out

jnarowe - No confusion the kid issue :D I've looking into exterior doors but thought they might rust easily

melev and jnarowe - It is a pretty big room and I thought if I ventilate the hoods and tank out of the house and keep a dehumidifier in the room I didn't think that I would have a problem w/ humidity in there w/ those two things.

Here are the pics of tearing out

This is the wall that would have been the right side of the tank room

See that door that is the door that would have been to the fish room

I was going to rip out the last part tonight but I got a HUGE cramp in my leg and am in BAD pain and can't move right now.

Nice progress. Those doors do rust unless you paint them. They typically come with just a primer on them. I have been thinking about taking mine to the local powder coater. He does great work and it is really inexpensive. You could also paint it with a marine metal paint.

Ooooh I'm so glad to see this is moving again!!! I cant' wait til I can get going on mine again! Keep it up! Play through the pain!

Rah rah rah! :D

Hey, is that sheetrock laid like right over the block wall with just a little furing strip? I had an area like that in my tank room and I used rigid insulation over it that fit just right.

I hate leg cramps! Doing wood flooring for 20 years and you get a cramp in just about every part of you body at one time or another.
Don't push to hard, work is different then working out ;)

jnarowe - It has foam insulation behind the sheetrock I just ripped that section off to paint the block it what would have been the tank room. Now I get to replace it :(

FFankie - That work is hard on the body!

I have off at my 2nd part-time job (I'm there to pay for the tank) this weekend so I'll get ALL the rest of the walls down and hope to maybe do some framing

Got around to tearing off some sheet rock. I'll pull the studs out tomorrow.

What is behind that wall in the pic above. The frame of the closet on the right might become part of the fish room only extended.

right about now, your wife is saying, "uh honey, you know how to put this back together right?".

 My boss is an amazing builder and carpenter so she hasn't asked but I'm sure she is thinking that he will finish it and not me :D

All the walls are almost gone...but I need to put the two around a room that I tore out earlier. But will do 2x6walls as those posts are 4x6" posts so I wanted to hide them in the wall any how. Also, there was NO insulation in the walls down there. Studs and Sheet rock is cheap so why not.

jnarowe - you are like my biggest poster in this thread. No one else loves me :D

I love ya man...your project is very cool and I love seeing people rip apart their homes for the sake of a fish tank! :D

I rememebr some time ago a guy responded to the suggestion of an in-wall by writing that he had just bought his house and didn't want to put any holes in the walls. And I replied that's the whole reason WHY you buy a house...so you CAN put holes in the walls. Otherwise we'd all be renting right?

There is such a great group of people on RC we are like family sometimes.

very true. I just can't believe I ripped out my whole basement (almost) for my tank. Wife is on board THANK GOD or I'd be sleeping down there. I just hope that shes doesn't get sick of it and jump off board. I keep telling her I'm doing it for the living room but she knows it is for my tank :D

Good most of the time

Priorities for today:
coffee - check
make a list of wood and rock for one room
Go empty truck that is full of the demo
Go to Lowes and pick up pieces on list
Finish Demo on that wall/room
Lay out the Tank room
Frame in the Bedroom that I tore out to hide the posts
Insulate
Han rock for now in that room
