The logo being front and center on each 'could' be removed, or at least small or something. If it's just gray, it'll look a bit odd. What did you have in mind?

No offense to your logo in particular (in fact it is tasteful as logos go), but I am not a fan of seeing logos everywhere in my house - especially when they are at eye level. I would just want a plain (black?grey-black?) end cover without the logo. Personal preference I suppose...

Alternatively, making the logo subtle (nearly the color of the end cap) may preclude the need to omit it entirely.

Thanks for your consideration.

Illuminations - new configuration

Illuminations - new configuration

Hi all.

I just returned from the MAX show and saw the new configuration. Certainly, it's effective and allows for excellent spread in the tank.

My only concern is that there are alot of wires: each 12" unit is daisychained to the next and they all connect under aluminum rails.

For people like me who have tanks built into walls, etc, where you DON'T see the fixture and wiring harnesses, it should be fine. But for people who have their fixtures visible, it's going to be a busy looking display.

I had to say this, but I think the new configuration is an interim solution to getting better spread.

That said, the Illuminations lighting is MUCH more brilliant and powerful, at least witnessing them first hand, than the competitors in the LED world. The difference was striking.

Hope this helps. Erik

So is anyone here going to buy one of these to be first on the block to try it out with the Profilux?

We just had a trip to Disneyworld fall in our lap for next month so that pushes my purchase back about 90 days.

Plus I'm still trying to figure out how to enclose it so it looks more like a single piece and hides the wires etc.

I received a price from ReefGeek for a 12" unit without the controller of $715 plus pst & gst and $20 for shipping plus a brokerage fee of approximately $50, in case any one up here is interested. They are in production right now and are scheduled to start shipping around May 1st. :)

Chris said i need 6 units for my 6x3x2 tank, will look great but wifes response was not as responsive!

You wont have to pay PST as the sale is outside canada by the way, you will have to pay brokerage though. GST is charged on the customs brokerage not by the retailer outside of canada.

PST is only applied to a sale that takes place inside the province you live in not outside.

So $715+shipping and brokerage+GST based on declared value charged to you by the broker not the retailer.

I inquired about a 48" unit and was quoted $2340 plus free shipping. minus $50 if I don't want their controller.

How do they determine the brokerage fee at the boarder?

The brokerage fee is not up to the retailer.

Never pay a dealer brokerage or PST with anything coming from the states to Canada.

Brokerage is worked out by the shipping companies in house brokers, or you can clear it yourself, but for a one off really not worth the effort.

The cost breaks down as follows

Brokerage clearing fee (amounts usually depends on value of goods unless you have an account, we pay a flat fee)

GST on the declared value of the goods coming in

Cutoms duty, in this case the goods should be shipped under NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) as the goods are made in North America. If they choose not to use this, then you are liable for duty costs depending on what customs tarrif code they apply to the goods. Normally its either 0% to value or around 3%

All the above is charged by the shipping broker NOT the retailer

As I understand it as present there is only one point of sale for Ai at present, although I think that is set to change.

Thats the quote I got from ReefGeek, The person I emailed with was Greg. But thats shipping to Toronto, which might be cheaper than shipping to Victoria.

I'm still trying to talk my wife into letting me get it.

Has it been discussed or is it even possible for the AI to utilize red LEDs to get effects similar to the simu sticks?

I would think one or two per module would give a nice effect.

I must say, I'm getting pretty amped about this unit. Can't wait for May to come around! As soon as I get word from ReefGeek that the AI unit is available, I'm ordering the lights and a Profilux controller for it.

Just a quick question about the AI unit... I'm planning to tuck this unit in a DIY canopy for a 72X24" tank. I understand that the unit ventilates from the top, so I was thinking of installing a 12X24 strip of black eggcrate on each side of the canopy to allow for topside ventilation. Will that provide enough ventilation for the unit or will I need a fan mounted inside the canopy, too?
