H&S skimmers rock. They need to make a dual Ehiem shortie like the Deltec 702.

Sometimes I miss my old Grotech though. That was a neat skimmer.

Those sound nice. What about the starbright?
http://www.exoticreefs.us/er_orig/repository/tubs/tubs_starbright.html

Did you guys ever decide on a name for Johns purple table? Did "tubs last supper" table stick?

Why does everybody ask for that thing? It was a Tonga wild coral John got it right before the Bay Area heat wave two years ago (or last year). He might have snapped some off before it died, but not to us.

Not enough to go around of that thing right now. I bet it looks awesome in John's tank.

I also saw the purple table in Eriks tank. It is a really nice piece. Dakan said he would get me a piece next time, but that was like 5 times ago. Sometimes its more hassle than its worth just for one piece with 6 hours of different dips and then inspecting and then gluing it down. I think he has three pieces for me, so I might need to collect here soon enough. :)

Mark, I think A250-1260 would have been a better choice. But I am still running my 902. I have to see your tank someday.

jesus

Jesus- I have about 200 gallons of total water volume and my space is limited. I thought about going bigger, but when it came down to it, I am very happy with the performance and my choice.

You are more than welcome to come by. :)

Hi Mark-

Yes I do have this piece. Paletta and I were at Johns house soon after he got it in and he hooked us up with frags. It is a really slow grower tho. I must have got it two years ago and its only 3" now. Lately, however, growth has sped up.

Glad to hear you located the skimmer. I apologize for not getting back to you on it. I never heard back from my contact. I need to order another myself so i will give him a call again.

Mark

I am finally getting a MP40 Gen 2 Vortec tomorrow.
I was wanting your suggestions on placement,

I was planning on putting it on the left side in the middle or so and removing one or 2 K4's.

I do not know if you remember my tank setup or not,
if you do what would you suggest?

If not, it basically has 3 k4's,

one on each side and one on the rh side of the back panel.

I was hopping to remove both rh and lh k4's and leave the k4 on the rh side of the back panel and placing the MP40 on the lh side.

Do you think this will provide enough flow?
Or should I just replace the lh k4 with the MP 40?

Also what is a good setting to start with on the wave driver?

Thanks a bunch in advance for your help.

Chris

Chris- I don't really know how much help I can be.

Flow is a tank by tank experiment. Vortechs will have a lot wider flow than the koralias. I use yellow, which is reef crest, but I also use pulse mode, which is blue.

The main thing is to make sure your polyps have enough flow. I like to see the polyps on each coral aggitated by the flow.

psss.. tell me where you get all your lps. ;)

hahaha. please?

I started looking at the LPS forum... and man, I am stoked at all those little gems!

I just kind of found out I had a chalice before. I just never knew what it was at the time.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one. I was starting to worry about that. Everything else grows like gangbusters compared to it.

I've been watching John's grow, and it is a slow grower for sure. I guess its time to collect on my frag so it can start to slow grow for me too.

This coral will make for some expensive frags as it is such a slow grower. Will easily be in the range of Oregon Torts or Dave/Dalton/TP tort range. If Ming, FragFarmer, or Tyree (God forbid) hype it up, no telling how high the value will go.

Just an update on my PO4 problems. I do believe that I have some PO4 bounded in my rocks or in my aragonite sand bed. I don't know if its correlated at all, but as I am bringing down my phosphates, my PH is climbing a bit. Today at the end of my lighting cycle, my PH is 8.5

Tonight's hanna reading .23, its gradually coming down. I am hestiant on using any more media as I am afraid of a sudden drop will cause some rtn/stn. :(

Edit: I just tested my effluent and it was .12 :mad2: I guess I will need to add some more media this weekend.

Mark, I noticed an slight increase in PO4 when I added in the sand grains (#3) you told me about. I should have soaked it a little longer.

So I guess it be coming from the sand bed.

Jay- I was feeding pellets and flakes 3 time a day when I added my tangs. That was the original source. To help get over the hump, I will be doing a 30% water change this weekend and I will most likey siphon the sandbed as well.

Mark - I vaccumm the sandbed with each of my water changes. I'm sure you can imagine how nasty the water looks coming out :eek2:
