Following. I'm going to swap out some as well.I've grown bored with the stock spectrum on the Mars Aqua lights and would like to change out some diodes. Looking for some advice and criticisms on my planned layout. Top pic is original layout of Mars Aqua and bottom pic is of my proposed changes. To sum it up, I am changing most of the 460nm blues to 450nm and changing the lower Kelvin whites to 14k. I am also adding some UV, Cyan, and 420nm purple.

I know I want to get rid of most of the warm whites, and cut the red and green in half.

thats almost what i did ..i took out the 3500k on the end and put in 10000k and took out the reds and put in 420nm..now going to take out greens and put in 395 nm ..thought the 420 nm was going to be more on the purple side but more blue to me..lol...

you could put in on top of a canopy...that would lift it up some...
I'd been running them pretty high, but have since backed off a bit, as some corals on higher rocks were beginning to bleach a bit - including a birdsnest.
There's no transparency to the torch at all - deep brown tentacles with an orange-green sheen, orange glow under the blues, and green tips.

each light will cover a 24x24 area. so you will have some shadowing on the ends but that's fine for lower light corals. or nonphoto corals... as far as producing enough light without the optics on, yes more then enough. your tank is only 20" high. without the optics will also help with covering the sides of the tank better since itll have better coverage. so with your tank being 30x30 your kinda forced to take them off anyway to try to get max coverage..i would suggest looking into a T5 retro kit and pairing it with the 165s and youll be good to go...

Hi guys, what do you recommend for a 93 cube ? It's 30 x 30 x 24H. My existing fixture is a diy led that I have mounted diagonally in canopy (only way it would fit), and is around 8" from the surface. Its on a dawn to dusk program on my Reef Angel controller (PWM). It worked pretty decently as my overflow is in the back corner and I was able to arrange Rockwork to take advantage. Had a mishap after a power outage and the controller shutdown the relays powering my hood fans and stuck my heater on. I know.... sounds like the wife... anyway, the moisture shorted the the wiring somewhere halfway and now only my right side lights. I'll get to fixing the light, but meanwhile I'm leaving on a trip in 10 days and I need to get lighting. The 300W might fit, but it will be tight .. I could put 1 165w unit in centered diagonally or 2 side by side. Will one unit with optics removed, provide a big enough footprint?

I ended up ordering 2 165w units. Easier to go side by side instead of trying to fit the 300 diagonally.

I just ordered two of the 165 units today. Has anyone attached two together befor hanging them? Do you have any pictures of how you mounted them? I need to evenly space them over a 120 gallon tank. Thanks!

I would think efficient quiet 80mm fans would be your only option. You would need to modify the unit internally to fit the bigger fans. Quiet fans are readily available.
Most guys mount their LEDs on some kind of conduit over their tanks and I think that looks the nicest. Did you get the units that have daisy chain capability? Then it should be pretty easy to plug them into eachother.
I do have a new question I just got an old school unit in a trade, it's got 10k or 14k whites and Royal Blues. It's the majority blues so I get a pretty good 20k look to it but one of the drivers doesn't have full power. It turns on but looks pretty dim on the whites and when I take it apart and switch drivers they turn up super bright.
My question is: is it worth my time to fix this unit with how old it is and without full spectrum? I want to use it for sps. Should I get a new dimming driver?

Yes, the white LED provides "full" spectrum, the red and green in these fixture are not important nor effective.
