Matt's 5000ltr Display

aww shucks.. I do try.

2nd system will be up and running before Christmas. Thats my deadline. Then i'll have flanks of SPS and LPS then matt can have the 6footer at the end for the boulevard!

another one?? or is it the one you were doing when i was living by you?

julie

I've moved since then Julie, i already have over 3 times more tank space but when the other system is up and running i will be looking at better results than a mixed system. Plus i'll have over 6 times more space than i did before!

Although at this pace i'll be giving up some of that to keep matts corals happy ;)

Incidently, is there no post edit function?

Matt,

I love seeing that latest update! Looks like you've been busy.

It's glaringly apparent that your planning was about as extensive as your vision on this build. Great work.

It certainly serves as inspiration for mine although it's still early, early in planning.

I did buy a few books on building home addition rooms, waterproofing, and humidity control...things you're already well versed in apparently!

KEEP IT UP!

Thanks again D5HP...I am winging it though. I now think I should have also bought some books to read up on how to do it properly! I look forward to your build.

I too agree with Mr. Positive.
There can be no isolation from garage creep, even with double doors. Or is that fish room creep?

Cheers Mike. Mr Positive makes a lot of sense and I too agree. However I am having to make the best of the space I have. I dont use the garage for working in ( much to my wifes dispair) so I dont forsee too many problems.

System is coming together really well. Congrats.

Thanks fish teen.

Amazing job. I bought Cheetah 3D some time ago to mess around with tank plans etc. It's been fun and surprisingly very effective at discovering issues. I am still a long way away from affording what I want to do, but this is certainly inspirational.

Thanks Jdarr. I have never used Cheetah but all 3d packages are pretty good at spotting potential errors. Although I am altering things slightly as I build the system I am glad that I drew it all out at first and have the blueprints as a starting point.

just caught up on this, and i must admit, its going to look very nice indeed.

Thanks Ponyo...happy to have you along for the ride.

ok, where was I..

After studding out a partition I used 12mm ply to clad it.

The ceiling in this half of the garage was pretty tricky and unfortunately it has resulted in me losing about 3" in ceiling height

IMG_6031.jpg

Once the ceiling was lined I was able to instal another T8 (or t12, I cant remember) strip light.

IMG_6032-1.jpg

Due to the preformed concrete walls of the garage I was only able to add strips of insulation.

I did consider adding polystyrene into the void between the ply and concrete for additional insulation but in all honesty when it came to that point i completely forgot!

The door in the partition is installed.

Tiling the 2nd half begins

IMG_6038.jpg

I hate tiling!

IMG_6043.jpg

I really hate tiling

IMG_6040.jpg

Due to the different ceiling heights some of the plumbing will cut through the ceiling in this part of the fish room.

IMG_6039.jpg

At last the tiling is finished. Just the grouting to go, which i hate even more than the tiling itself!

IMG_6044.jpg

As an after thought I decided to add central heating to the fish room. I have insulated the fish room as best I can but adding a couple of radiators will help keep the room at a reasonable temperature in the colder months.

Before installing the first of two radiators I added a heat reflective backing that will sit behind the radiator.

IMG_6045.jpg

This is where I am up to now ( I seem to have missed out a couple of pics)
The walls and floor is tiled and grouted, the first radiator is installed ( although I will be moving the trv) and I have started to build frames for the support tanks.

Sorry, but what's "trv"? :?

Things are really coming along. Quite the effort! I'm sure this is really going to come out well for you, Matt.

Thanks Dave, I assure you the pics make it look better than it actually is!

A trv is a thermostatic radiator valve. Ideally located in an area that allows free flowing air around it. Where I have it at present it will be a little isolated.

Cheers Ash, honestly I do hate it!!...very pleased it is nearly finished.

That wooden stand might warp being so close to the radiator? :)

Just kidding as you know Matt.

When you make progress you make proper progress.

Hi Matt ( the riff raff have arrived )
Your build has realy moved on , you must be happy at the results of your hard work. It looks amazing. You are building something that most reefers could only dream of.
Keep up with the up dates, its getting quite addictive reading them.

Kind regards

Martin

Hi Martin

Its awesome you boys are joining RC and stopping by! I am happy with progress, as you know it has been a long time in the making but it's getting there.

I need to do another update soon, I have done quite a bit since the last one but I have been a bit poor with getting the camera out to take progress shots.

How is your tank coming on?...hows the sps?

Thanks again Martin, good to hear from you.
