Some of these are just terrific!

However they look even better grown out! With the bare live rock, an element is lacking and I have to say I liked very few of them. But when I saw comparison shots about a year or what it may be later I was astounded by the difference.

I guess corals add an aspect that just make every liverock configuration look wonderful.

I think the minimal landscaping looks great. So much less cluttered than the old over-pile of boulders motif. Never understood the 1.5 lbs per gallon rule for biofiltering as its obvious now its not essential to have a healthy tank.

However, I think we make too big an issue of the appearance without coral. I too used to angst about rock formations when starting a new tank only to find I wind up rearranging the look once corals grow out. Maybe its 'cause there's nothing else to do while the tank cycles :spin2:

still a new work in progress...the hippo tang and red mushrooms have added some much needed color....almost have the rocks where i want them. engineer goby has been murder on my sand!!!!

Nice Scape Kyleben.
can you share tank dimensions as well as how you fixed the rocks (Cement or drilling and inserting rods...?)

56 gallon 30x18x24 10 gallon refuge. Its a pretty odd size but it fists better in the living room and is starting to look pretty cool. Im worried the shorter tank is gonna limit my ability to keep tangs long-term but I will deal with that when my hippo gets bigger. I got lucky with my rocks in the fact they all seam to fit together....who says 5 years of art-school was worthless hahah! this is about my 4th rock scape. seams every time I get a new coral or need to put my hand in the tank i end up re arranging the rockscape.

so far i have:
blue hippo tang
pair of Percula Clownfish
Yellow watchman goby (who along with the pistol shrimp I see twice a month if I'm lucky)
engineer goby
blood shrimp
peppermint shrimp (that is going in the fuge if I can ever catch the little bastard)
emerald crab
mini carpet anemone (I think)
just lost my flameback angel :(
various snails and hermits

This thread has really helped me out in my aquascaping ideas lately. Again I don't know if mine is considered minimalist. I just reaquascaped and here's the outcome...

Tell me what you think!

Samuel,
First of all, I really like your scape. Second, I assume that the large PVC pipe on the left is a type of overflow??? Can you describe how it works or maybe post a link about it, if such a webpage exists?

Thanks.
