Mutt's Build - IM's New Fusion 40

I might have to pick one of these up! Looks great bro!

Thanks bro! Yeah... I thought I wanted bigger, but after seeing this mostly complete I'm very happy with the size. If you are going to get one, you won't be disappointed plus 5 gallon water changes are nice.:fish1:

For those who were wondering where my power supply was located.. Here is a couple pics for reference.

Would you mind if we shared a photo of your build on our FB page? That stand is awesome!

Great Tank!! I am getting back into the hobby as well. My wife gave me enough space in our house for the IM 40. Comes Friday. Are you going to run the IM reactor as well? I picked it up, and now I am second guessing if I should run it or just wait.

I need to start figuring out how to hang the radions too!!

How exciting, just keep the wife happy ;).. Im in the same boat with my wife lol... These tanks are awesome. The build quality surpassed my expectations. Even my brother in law just pulled the trigger on one as well! Hopefully he will get some pics up on RC (Timmy03.. hehe)

I wish there were more options from Ecotech for light hanging.. I was going to use 80/20 t-slot aluminum, but wanted my tank lit up quickly lol....

I just bought the IM reactor and going to use it for GFO... Waiting on the Fusion 40 baskets..

Good Luck!

I too had to get the wife's approval! Whats up with that? LOL! Now that Muttley put me on blast, I'll get something up in the next couple of days. Excited to get this going. Tank, light, skimmer, ATO all shipped and will be here tomorrow!

It just means we are all smart married men! I am going to go slow on this build ( I say that now). Waiting to see what IM puts out for skimmers, hopefully better than they had before and waiting for MD for the caddys.

I am thinking of putting the heater in the return area since both columns will be filled with reactors and skimmer. Thoughts?

Want to get an idea of how the ecotech products work together. Have the MP10w es, and will have the radions. Thinking they should work well together.

Happy wife and a new fish tank, can't beat that!!!

For reference.. I put my apex thermometer in one return. A heater in the other return and a backup heater in the lower sump area. Just making sure that the thermometer was no where near the heaters and more ambient with the main display.

I am just going to put one heater in the lower sump area, I have never had issues with heaters ( knock on wood) and due to having a 14 month old, we keep the house pretty warm at 72. Though that is another reason to get a controller. Need to add that to my list.

I am struggling with what option to go with hanging the radions. I hate wires and I see that you do as well. I just feel maybe the best bet is going to go with a LCD ceiling mount or square tubing so I can hide all the wires.

I just got the fusion 40 gallon today. I am upgrading from my 12 gallon cube that I have running for @ 8 years. I am looking into where to buy rock from to add to my existing rock. I am following this thread. Your set up looks great!

Well, after having a few issues with the Cadlights pls-50.. One being a crooked glued neck and another being a leak via bottom chamber, I decided to go with a Aquamaxx HOB-1.

Setup of this unit is stupid easy. However, if you read the instructions you will over complicate the simple process. Go to Marine Depot's assembly video to make life easier!

Not that it matters too much, but this skimmer is packed way better than the Cadlights... Not sure is if the Cadlights was damaged due to poor mfg packing, but all the acrylic was against the cardboard and the packing material was stuffed on the other side.

Anyways, back to the skimmer..this thing produces some froth! The Italian made Sicce Shark 1.0 pump is a workhorse! The bubble plate is a work of art. Rated for up to a 75 gallon tank.. Kinda nice if you are going Zeovit and over skimming... Well enough with the reading.. time for the pics!

Looks good. Did you take out one of your media baskets and put the skimmer in there?

I have to live through your build.. UPS has delayed all 5 of my packages until Monday.

lol I know the feeling..... Yes I did remove one of the baskets, but will move the skimmer to a different location after it breaks in.. I put the skimmer in that specific chamber to help reduce micro bubbles with the baffles.

Day 1 of break in... not too bad.. :)

I'm impressed...

I love when skimmers just work.
