My 120 filled mostly with SPS

Thank you for the kind comments.

Very nice looking tank. What t5 bulbs are you running? Were the pics taken with just the LEDs or with both t5 and LED?

Pictures were taken with both LEDs and T5's on. With just the RB Crees, it is pretty difficult to get a picture that isn't completely washed out in blue or magenta. For T5's I'm running all ATI bulbs - 2 x AquaBlue Special, 1 Purple Plus, and 1 Coral Plus. The AquaBlues are 12,000k and I wanted a daylight look similar to my 2 x 250 w MH's that I just swapped out, they had 12,000k bulbs and I liked the look and growth was fantastic. My current arrangement though is too white and too purple (the RB Crees pump out a lot of magenta IMO), I'll likely swap out the purple plus for a blue plus or even a pure actinic pretty soon. The corals are still adjusting to the change, but I've been careful to keep the lighting to a minimum and once I think the corals can handle it, I'm going to ramp it up a bit. Right now I have the LED's on for 8 hours daily and the T5's on for 5. Eventually I'd like to get 10 and 6 or even 12 and 6.

Sick is right......Sooooo jealous right now... :)

Seriously though Jordan it looks awesome. Love the aquascape and the quality of the pictures is amazing.

When did you get the cardinals?

Thanks Darryl. Couldn't have done the tank without your help. Couldn't have done the LED's without your soldering skills too! I got the cardinals about 10 days ago (8 of em'), Bill had them on special at IA for $7.99 each, they went pretty fast. They really do stick together as a shoal, they are pretty shy still, but last night they started feeding for the first time with the lights on, they had only been eating in the dark, so I'm hopeful they will all make it.

Great looking tank! Lets see the mechanic thats running the tank!

I'll post a picture of my wallet and visa soon enough.

Do you dose two part or use a ca reactor?

BRS 2-part on BRS dosers.

The colors are amazing, and you really have some nice colonies there. Great placement and selection of corals and fish! Hope I can get my next tank to look like that

Awesome tank. love the scape and how well spaced everything is. Looks like a lot of thought has been put into this setup. Well done!

I made the two rock pillars, one on the left and one on the right, by drilling holes with a masonry bit through the rock, stacking them on a driveway marker, and cementing them with hydraulic cement. If I had to do it over again, instead of making "pillars", I would make "pyramids" - there are too many shaded spots which makes the placement of sps difficult. In those spots, I'm going to try and incorporate LPS. Switching to LED's plus the T5's from MH's has improve spread and light is penetrating spots it wasn't before, which is the biggest benefit of the change in the lighting IMO. Also, the cement, while non-toxic and holding up pretty well, does create some flakes and dust that is apparent every time I blast out the rocks with a turkey baster. Next time I'll use lighter rock, and more epoxy, and go lighter on the cement or avoid using it altogether. I do like the pillars though as it gives the fish quite a bit of room to zip around... the anthias stay up at the front in the high flow and are always visible... the other fish sort of work their way around the pillars in figure 8's.

For comparison here is a FTS from July 2011.

Dear goodness you and dvanacker grow some seriously nice sps colonies. I guess I need to move to Canada to get my tank looking good. If you don't mind me asking, what current are you running the leds at? Also, what optics and how high off the water?

WOW, I LOVE the look of your tank! Love the coral scaping. Love the coral colours.

Can you post a photo of how your lighting is rigged up?

Many thanks.

Thanks guys. The 48 LED's are driven by four of the MeanWell 1.1A drivers (LPC-35-700), not sure if that is what you are looking for. The optics are the 80 degree lens. They are 8" off the surface. I don't know much about LED's, dvanacker basically gave me is opinion, which I went with, and he helped DIY it. I just switched over within the past 6 to 7 weeks and took my MH's offline.

Sahin, I'll post a picture of how the lighting is rigged up the next time I get my camera out, within the next couple of days.

Boy Im glad it worked out for you......would have felt bad if it looked like crap. I would like to say I was completely confident but in this hobby are you ever completely confident about anything? lolz....

I'm pretty confident that if you are confident and it is reef related, things are going to work out just fine.

Wow man this is a gorgeous tank. I cant believe its LED driven.

Thanks BillyC. Don't get the wrong impression though, I was running MH's and T5's up until just a few weeks ago. In addition to the LED's, there are over 200 watts of T5 lighting as well. I would hesitate to run LED's solely on my tank at this point in time, this is a happy compromise IMO.

Never. Just when you think you've got it licked, something happens to humble your efforts. If this hobby didn't keep me learning new things I would have probably bailed years ago. I think I'm just a sucker for punishment and not having any money left in my pockets.:D

beautiful tank and beautiful photos.

Thanks!

Always a pleasure to look at something so nice :eek1:

Thanks M007. Looks like your current new tank is going to be a good one.

Amazing! Very nice, i like the aquascaping and the open space.

Rowdy29can, I tried shooting you a response to your PM, you've reached your storage limit apparently, feel free to touch base anytime.

Very cool tank, how much flow do you have in your tank. And how are your milli polyps so long?

I have the two Tunze 6105's on the 7096 controller. I can't recall what setting they are on (I haven't touched them in a long time), but I have them so they are running at 60% and 40% percent I believe for 6 seconds, then they both ramp up to 100% for 6 seconds. They seem to produce a good amount of flow, especially when they are clean. I typically clean them once a month to keep them running well. I also have the Eheim 1262 return which produces a little bit of flow.

Not sure about the length of the millie's polyps, I have decent extension but seems to be no different than I've seen in other tanks?

Blah, trying to be patient. Moved about 30% of my SPS to the new tank, doing ok, but the tangs keep moving my big caps..... Scaped parts of the tank like yours, tricky to find a good spot for all of my SPS. Picked up a few new frags from Jay which isn't making it any easier LOL. :eek1:

Regarding scaping, I am going to need to adjust mine a bit! The rock on top of one of my pillars is splitting; it is gong to take some adjustment. I guess that is what happens when you drill a hole through rock and wait long enough.

I'd thought I'd try and get some shots with just my Cree RB's on... not that easy, but some worked out:
