My 120 filled mostly with SPS

Thanks for the comments.

Nice as always is that 3rd to last a chalice

Franky, that is indeed a chalice. Thankfully my regal laid off it and the two spots that have been chewed are almost completely healed.

wow nice ! I can never catch those see through polyps on a camera, well done !

I find it helps if you can isolate them with a lot of space behind them... that way it is dark behind, and helps you see them despite their translucence... that said, you have to act fast before they close.

Haven't posted an update in a while, been busy, but will post some pics shortly. I have been sticking to a good maintenance routine and have had a couple projects on the go:

- substrate replacement: my substrate (seafloor special) was looking horrible, over the past few months I've been slowly suctioning it out, and I've replaced it with florida crushed coral (hopefully will stay in place and won't get blown around like the SS).

- ricordia eradication: I had a couple sizeable spots on my rockwork where ricordia were growing and stinging my SPS. I've tried to pry them off the rocks, and cover the base area with crazy glue and epoxy. So far so good.

- GFO: after going for several months without GFO or carbon, I decided to put a small amount of GFO back online. Seems like it is helping with the nuisance algae a bit (cyano)combined with my heavier skimming. I still have some bubble algae but prying it off when I see it and regularly basting the corals seems to be helping.

- HLLE treatment: my yellow tang and cherub angel have had HLLE for quite some time. I've noticed a small hole on my regal now too unfortunately. I haven't run Carbon for quite a while, and I have fed a pretty diverse diet, so I'm wondering if it is related to the hydraulic cement I used to cement my rock pillars together. It has always slowly eroded with time and then suspended in the water and collects in the substrate and in the sump. I'm hoping that most of it is gone with my substrate change, as very little comes off my rocks anymore. I have been soaking all food in selcon (pellets and Mysis and nori), and have been feeding s special angel food once every couple of days that is supposed to be high in sponge content. I've also added the Brightwell Angel Elixir stuff to food. Hopefully this will help stop further HLLE or even reverse it in my fish. Really annoying, the fish are otherwise pigs and fat as heck.

Finally got around to finishing a video, here it is (hope this works). Available to watch in HD.

Unbelievable colors! Really fantastic. Congratz and thanks for sharing. Love your fish selection as well.

Wow, Jordan, great video of your reef aquarium. (I see a few things I would like to get from you, for my collection. :D We need to talk.)

Everything looks awesome. Great work!!

Sorry for the late response, didn't notice this until just now. I have always used Instant Ocean.

thanks i have been using the same for years but was thinking about change up to a salt designed for reef tanks.

your tank is simply amazing so don't mind me if i stalk your page trying to learn from you :)

Wow, such a good looking colorful tank. Nice size of colonies too. If I lived close by, I would steal some frags from you!!!

Nice buddy! looks fantastic. I am still flabergasted that you keep angels... Well, the regal I can see working sort of but a coral beauty! thats just cray

Absolutely stunning!!! Corals are gorgeous, and I love the fish selection! The fish color choices are excellent

I have been struggling to source out a Copperband, and Regal as well. However, we usually get them in poor condition and not feeding. Still waiting for better specimens. Any tips to encourage feeding?

Love it! Tank looks amazing and healthy !

Nicely done sir, corals all look great

Thanks guys, all the coral is healthy at the moment, I'll keep the fingers crossed. As I noted in a previous post, some of my fish are battling HLLE, but I'm hoping I can nip it in the bud.

In terms of salt, I've never seen the need to use anything other than IO. Many of the nicest tanks use IO and that is good enough for me. Feel free to ask anything, I'll do my best to help you out!

Thanks Bernie. I have some pretty big colonies now, and several small frags that I want to grow out. The biggest coral in that video, the fire and ice prostrata (the one that is front and centre in the embedded video still), I've actually sold - it will be coming out in the next week or so. It is getting too big and will soon start dying from the bottom up or centre out. Anyhow, I'm going to trim it down to the base and let it grow back out, given the rate it has grown at traditionally I should have a decent colony again in 6 months or so. It will also allow more light to penetrate down to other corals and probably open up a bit more flow. Tank will look a lot different though.

Great video Jordan....thanks for sharing.!

Thanks Darryl. Tank isn't as nice as yours, but a lot of those corals came from your collection, so kinda neat to see some of those frags grown out into full sized colonies now.

Kevin I think you mean the Cherub angel - it and the regal are the two I have. I got the Cherub when I had my old 55 gallon. It has a bit of a mean streak but it is kept in check by the bigger fish. I haven't caught it nipping anything it shouldn't, but it also eats anything and everything and is well fed.

The CBB and Regal I got locally (from Bill@IA who posted above), both were eating Mysis in store. Both were on the small side when I got them, not sure if that helps. The regal wasn't the most aggressive eater when he went into my display, I found I had to feed Mysis 4 or 5 times daily, a small amount each time, to get him to eat. He would eat one small shrimp each feeding, then he slowly increased his intake. The CBB ate vigorously right from the store. The recent issue I had with him is that my tomato clowns were harassing him, and even though he was eating two to three times per day, he was expending so much energy he was getting really thin. I gave one of my clowns to a local reefer and that has helped and the CBB is fattening up again.

My advice would be to get a fish that is eating in the store. Then once introduced, try to ensure that any stress is minimized. My powder blue tang went crazy on my regal when I introduced him - so I caught him and sold him, and then introduced a new, small PBT after my regal was established. That allowed the regal to get used to the tank with minimal stress (my yellow tang was a bit of an arse but not too bad). I also try to add rocks from my sump to the display periodically for my CBB and regal to browse on, they both love it. Both fish eat out of my hand now. I put some Mysis that has been soaked in selcon in my fingers and hold it at the surface, both come up and pick the food right out of my fingers.
