My 120 filled mostly with SPS

Sorry for the late responses, last week has been a bit chaotic.

WOW,!!! Can not believe you took those shots while snorkeling !!! They are beautiful!
Do u only snorkel? I scuba dive and man I know what you mean by inspiration !!

On that trip I only snorkelled. It was my honeymoon and my wife wasn't keen on going for a dive, so I settled for snorkelling from the beach, which was pretty awesome. I have done some discovery dives, but never gone as far as getting my open water certification, which is something I would like to still do. Where do you dive?

I am not running biopellets and do not have anything to measure phosphates (yet). i cant tell betweenthe shades of yellow on my Nitrate test but it appears low.

I have a very inconsistant feeding schedule, I should probrable work on that as well. i would like to ensure that my corals have all nutrients available to them. I ahve chaeto in my sump/fuge and i run 1/2 cup carbon and 1/2 cup BRS GFO, both changed monthly. Without measuring my phosphorus I am guessing how much to run and how often to change. I have considered biopellets or carbon dosing with my Kalk.

I just got done with a diatom bloom and have yet to see any algae to speak of.

What puzzles me most on my lighting is that I get the best coloration on my SPS near the sand! My higher up corals seem to bleach or not show very vibrant coloration. And that is with only 2 full spectrum T5 bulbs!

Curious to hear what you suggest about the biopellets, C dosing and feeding

That is interesting. If your pieces are showing good colour at the bottom, and bleached out near the top, it might be too much light. Did you change your bulbs recently? You may want to dose a bit of Lugol's (follow instructions carefully), which can help with light shock. It wouldn't hurt to reduce your photoperiod, especially your daytime lighting, by 2 hours or so, and see what happens. Sometimes less is more.

What phosphate test kit do you have? If you don't have a Hanna checker, I wouldn't bother testing. For SPS you are going to want to be in the 0.03 ppm range, which isn't in the sensitivity range of most (if not all) kits. Running biopellets will help reduce nitrates moreso than phosphates, but if you run the BP with Carbon/GFO, you're heading toward a ULNS. I run pellets, and recently swapped out my skimmer for one that skims heavier, and I've really had to up my feedings due to a nutrient shortage. I would wait until your corals start to look better on top, then introduce BP if you want (do your due diligence first and read up on it). After putting your BP online, you will have to increase your feedings to fish and coral, possibly signficantly.

Wow this is awesome, what are the dimensions of the tank.

Thanks, 48x24x24

Do you dose a carbon source? (vodka, pellets, vinegar). If so, did u notice a change?

Does BP. I have noticed a change in that I have a wider range of nutrient load in which to work - I can feed my fish fairly heavily and not worry about over polluting the tank. This ties in with my response above... currently, with my new skimmer, I've had to up my feedings even further.

Some updated shots. Colours are improving.

Here are some of my blue/purple corals, IMO the hardest colours to photograph and represent accurately, especially with the influence of the Cree RB LED's:

Well honeymoon is def the priority, lol!
I live in Florida and have done diving in the keys, and Jupiter and west palm beaches.
I have also dived in Maui and St. Thomas St. Martin.
Have not dove in one year but still close my eyes and remember! Lol!

beautiful corals and pics

Thanks!

Man your photography is some of the best ive seen on here.....of course you got some nice subjects too.

Thanks Darryl, nice of you to say. I'm still learning, but enjoying the photography more and more. There is lots to learn moving forward and I hope I continue to stay motivated. I've got lots to research on portrait photography now with having the little one.

Stunning, that chalice is wicked

That chalice is indeed a beauty. It seems to be quite pleased in my tank. Hopefully it stays that way!

Absolutely love your pics! Crazy corals, congrats!

Must be nice to have those types of options so close to home! I could dive the great lakes I guess, but just doesn't have the same appeal. Especially this time of year up here. :lmao:

man i only wish my sps are as colorful. why why whyyyyyyyyyyyy

Thanks for saying that - but, my colours aren't that terrific at the moment. If you look at my pink lemonade, and compare it to the piece it came from (dvanacker's 200) below, we're not on the same planet!

That's crazy talk Jordan....looks amazing. You may find that the colour changes a bit as it gets larger but I like the light yellow and pink yours has.

I may have missed it but do you have any photos of just your rock work...I'm really interested in type of rock and how you scaped it to achieve such depth...thanks in advance...

To each their own! Either way, it is a beautiful coral.

Thanks for the compliment Dwayne... Sounds like a plan, I'd like to get out and see your collection as it has been a while! Lets try and do something by the end of the year at the latest? Realistically it will be December before I can find the time, busy for the rest of most of November with work, part-time masters degree, and a 9-week old. I'll shoot you a PM though at the end of the month and we can set something up.
