My 120 filled mostly with SPS

Anyway Kevin I might be able to get a frag from Jordan for ya.....since we are supposed to met up sometime.

Nice pictures as always Jordan and that colony has gotten huge.

Thanks, that would be much appreciated if you could make that happen Darryl. I feel privileged to be surrounded by such beautiful aquariums. I need to step up my game :lol2:

thats a beautiful coral, I love how its grown out. Id love a piece but cant stomach the 2 hour drive after 14 hours of it this weekend.

I used to have a colony of this coral and now only a frag. Jordan originally got this one from me as well. I got my frag of this prostrata which I named the fire and ice prostrata from an aquarist in 2005 maybe 06...Im sure he had for at least a few years too.

Yes, this one, like many of my pieces, came from Darryl. I'm hoping I'll eventually be a complete farm system for Darryl's tank - sort of like the Marlies are to the Leafs. Maybe that isn't a good comparison (Darryl's Tank to the Leafs) lol, I think he has shown relatively much more success.

Funny how these frags get around - that's a sign of doing something right - if frags of the same coral are being passed back around 6 or 7 years later, that is a good sign for sustainability.

Acronic, I'll give a piece to Darryl for you.

nice lookin tank

Thanks!

yea they are different ! heres a not so good pic of mine form some months ago.

I'll link it as I dont want to ruin ure thread by posting pics on it :)

we should trade a frag of these :D lol

Yes, that is most certainly different, nice looking piece! Your piece has different coloured polyps and base judging by that pic, the organge digi is uniform. Would definitety be up for trading.

just got done with 6 pages of very nice!

I have a 120 SPS (frag) dominated and have a T5 / LED Hybrid lighting system as well. i am struggling to figure out my sweet spot though.

I am using Bridgelux 3W royal blue, 16 on one rail and a mix of RB and whites on a second rail. both strands dimmable. I have my LED's down the center of the tank with 2 T5 in the front and 2 T5in the back. My T5 are 2ea Blue plus. One Purple plus, one Coral plus.

The LED are on from 8am - 11pm (15 hours) at about 75% intensity.
The second strand of LED whites and blues run at 25% 11am -8pm)
The Blue plus are on from 10am - 9pm (11 hours)
The coral plus and purple plus run 3pm - 7pm (4 hours)

The reasoning behind my times and color choices is rather random. Its a collection of experiance from a colleciton of sources.

I have very decent grown but poor colors on my corals.

Dont want to hyjack you thread but sure would appreciate some assistance. ITs essentially the same build and you seem to be having great success. I have a few ideas on potentilal changes but your insite might save me a good deal of time, heartache and $$$$.

Thank you so much! PM is fine or i will start a thread!

thanks for any and all help!!!!

Jordan, what are you feeding that tank ???
an intravenous KZ Amino acid drip ? The tank is looking great

Dwayne

Thanks Dwayne. Just started feeding again actually. I've gone too far with stripping nutrients after my skimmer issue - corals are paling now!

thanks for any and all help!!!!

Looks pretty good! Nice scape. The lighting isn't too different from mine - I'm T5's for 7 hours and RB crees for 12 hours. If you are getting lots of growth, you are doing something right. It may be more of an issue with hitting the nutrient sweet spot or water parameters. Can you provide a bit more info? My corals are paling at present, but that is due to too few nutrients I believe, not the lighting.

just amazing!

Thank you.

very nice bro i am jealous

I love coming to this thread, very inspirational. Gives me motivation. Thanks for sharing

Thanks

Very nice FTS!!! Coloring is a bit purple for me but nonetheless great.
BTW what are you dosing, feeding, etc?

The cree RB's are actually quite purple. Originally I had a fiji purple t5 bulb too, but it was too much and I swapped it out. Just doing 2-part, other than that feed NLS pellets and mysis to my fish, and occasionally cyclopeeze. I've started feeding oysterfeast twice weekly at night during lights out now that I've sufficiently depleted my nutrients... went a little too far. Things are starting to show signs of colouring back up thankfully.

as far as parameters go i am right on the high end acceptable range for alk, mg and Ca. I am not getting any readings for nitrates and I do not have the ability to test for phosphates yet.

You are running alot more full spectrum T5 than I am. I have a few extra bulbs (AT coral plus and purple plus). I am considering replacing my blue T5 with these but concerned that I might shock everyone. I have a blue and green acro growing beautifully on the sand with my current set up.

Any suggestions on what i might look at for water quality? Parameters are stable. I am dosing Kalk in my ATO, skimmer seems to be dialed in, chaeto is growing at a steady but not crazy rate. THanks!

Awesome tank. Way is your lighting?

I've got a combo of 48 RB Cree's and 4 x 54w T5's (full spectrum).

If you parameters are stable, and you are getting growth, something right is going on. I wouldn't change too much. I essentially use my T5's as my daylights, and my RB's as my supplementation dusk/dawn. It could be a matter of just fine dialiing in your nutrient levels - are you running biopellets or going ULNS?

A bit too blue for my taste, but definitely a lot going on in there.
Great job!

Yes, the RB's are very blue.

I was going through the PB archives and here are some wild Indo pieces that I saw while snorkelling, thought I would put them in here (since partially my inspiration for upgrading to this current system):

WOW,!!! Can not believe you took those shots while snorkeling !!! They are beautiful!
Do u only snorkel? I scuba dive and man I know what you mean by inspiration !!

I am not running biopellets and do not have anything to measure phosphates (yet). i cant tell betweenthe shades of yellow on my Nitrate test but it appears low.

I have a very inconsistant feeding schedule, I should probrable work on that as well. i would like to ensure that my corals have all nutrients available to them. I ahve chaeto in my sump/fuge and i run 1/2 cup carbon and 1/2 cup BRS GFO, both changed monthly. Without measuring my phosphorus I am guessing how much to run and how often to change. I have considered biopellets or carbon dosing with my Kalk.

I just got done with a diatom bloom and have yet to see any algae to speak of.

What puzzles me most on my lighting is that I get the best coloration on my SPS near the sand! My higher up corals seem to bleach or not show very vibrant coloration. And that is with only 2 full spectrum T5 bulbs!

Curious to hear what you suggest about the biopellets, C dosing and feeding
