My 240g FOWLR

Absolutely beautiful! I cant believe some of the fish you have in there! I dont want to hijack your thread, but I would like to ask a few questions if you dont mind.
I am wanting to start a butterfly tank myself, probably in a year or so. I dont know if Ill have the room or weight support for a 240, so would a 150 be adequate? I am not ambitious enough for your stocking list, I would have maybe a dozen fish total, about half being butterflies and the rest peaceful tankmates. I was thinking maybe anthias...as long as I had a tight fitting lid. Any info or recommendations would be greatly apprectiated! Please feel free to pm me so Im not taking up your thread.

Again, amazing fish!

The fowleri has definitely grown!!

Thanks. A 150 would be fine. Many of the common species of butterflies don't get very large at all. WetWebMedia has a good, albeit old, breakdown of easy, moderate, and difficult butterflies. Check it out.

Thanks. The meredithi is still the biggest fish in the tank, but the fowleri is catching up fast.

Awesome pics as always. How big is the tusk? Going by his colors I'd guess he's pretty big.

Nice avatar too.. "What is light without dark?" ;)

Your tank really makes me want to go down this path.

Could you list equipment and your husbandry procedures?

Hoping in a few years to have the space and budget for a tank like this. Its amazing. Be sure that when I do start that project I will have plenty of questions for you!

Hey SD buddy:wave:. I'm looking for a showpiece fish for my new 42g reef and was wondering if there are any butterflies that would work in this tank. I know it is a lottery as to whether you get one that is coral safe or not but want to see what you think:).

That Blueline is gorgeous! Ive been contemplating purchasing one that is available at a LFS. Does $300 for about 3" sound right? Its nowhere near the stage that yours is at, still rather dull towards the tail fin. A juvenile i would guess.

How about an Atlantic longnose?

I did a quick search on them and they don't like bright reef lighting (because their a deep water butterfly) and they can be tricky to get them to eat:(. Pretty fish but I don't think one would do well in my tank, so I'm going to give it a miss. Thanks for the suggestion though SD much appreciated, any other ideas for a show fish?

Thanks! It's a pretty basic setup.

240g standard 8 x 2 x 2 (really really really wish I had gotten the 30" tall 300 though :( ).

Sump #1: Two drains with filter socks that get changed every few days.

SWC300 skimmer. Gets cleaned once a week or more.

Sump #2: Dual chamber refugium. One with LR, one for macro algae (have yet to get that going though :o )

BRS dual reactor for carbon and CFO (to be honest, I'm not a fan of the BRS design)

QuietOne 3000(?) return pump feeds the tank and sump #2.

Tunze 6255 and 6155 with controller on opposite sides of the tank, plus a Koralia 3250 (Magnum 8) for flow in the tank.

Lighting: 4 x 54W T5's
