Waiting for the zooxanthellae to return and then he'll get BIG :)

Hi,
Ive had the same anemonecame down one morning and found my mandarin (green) half in and half out of the anemones mouth,we would feed the anemone white bait.
Sue

It seems like it has recovered beautifully, nice blue or purple gig, those are difficult to find and raise. Great job in keeping it, love the videos and anemone crab.

the tank is 48'' long, on each end there is a 14'' fixture both with 20 3W Cree LeD's.. 10 white/10 blue, but each color is seperatley dimmable, and than in the middle i have a cheap par38 bulb that i had laying around i hooked up for temporary use cause the middle was not getting enough light for my liking.. this bulb as 12 1W LeD's, 6 blue, 6 white, the whole bulb itself is dimmable but not seperate colors.

As of right now i dont dose anything in my tank just do weekly water changes, and change out my Carbon every 2 weeks, pretty soon here im gonna add GFO (i have the BRS Dual reactor..) should i have an concerns about adding GFO this late ?

<a href="http://s1113.photobucket.com/albums/k507/Reef1589/?action=view&current=123.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k507/Reef1589/123.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

when i first bought him, i had all LeD's dimmed down and have kind of slowly ramped them up right right now i sit at blue's at 60% and whites at about 45% an my Par38 bulb somedays i run at 100% and other days i run it at 60%

i too am waiting for the zooxanthallae to return, waiting for that brown look, i notice as i get further into this the center becomes more of a flourescent green, and i was wondering is that signs of a Low population of Zoo? .. (even though i know they have a brown hugh... )

SO just doing my weekly update...but... this is gonna be a littler bit different, there is ALOT TO UPDATE YOU GUYS WITH...

so.. i was back at my LFS again... (remember, a feed store... for farms with a small saltwater section)... well.. to my suprise when i get there, they had 2... gorgeous LARGE.. S. Gigantea anemone's... both looke healthy, 1 had a tight a mouth the other had a a closed mouth but was showing 1 siphonglyph, they also were very sticky... considering they were alot healthier than the bleached one i bought i figure they were gonna come with a price tag as welll... Not too bad though $50 ea... so of course, i walked out there with both of them.

now some people have LPS addiction, some have SPS addiction, some have Zoa/Paly addiction, and Chalice Addiction, i would say my strong addiction is Anemone's, perferably Carpets, Haddoni, S. Gigantea's, as well as H. Mags... gorgeous creatures, and just amazing imo..

now you maye be wondering, holy crap, 3 s. gigs in 1 shallow 65g tank? Of course nottttt, i added 1 to the 65g currently with the bleached S. Gig, and then i added one to my 150g, which is also powered by LeD's.. but this is a LeD/T5 Combo..

well, here it is, Pictures! starting with the bleached one first, he's coming aroun really well :) lots of color in the rim, and even more in the center now

I am aware both new S. Gigantea's are showing siphonglyphs, but no gaping mouths, everything seems to be decent so far, i know i also took a risk of throwing the new one in, with my already bleached S. gig that seems to be established really well.. but as of right now both seem to be reacting just fine... and both new ones seem to be settling in fine.. =D

im shocked with how long the tentacles are on the one that got put in the 150g, the tentacles are definantly relaxed, and really elongated which to my understanding is a good sign...=D

Let me know what you guys think of the new additions.

That purple one in the 150 is gorgeous, the tentacles are so long! that mouth should tighten up pretty quickly.

The purple one in the 70g is very nice as well, the silver tips will be really nice! I have 0 luck with purple gigantia's, both of mine died after about a month :(

i forgot about these two pictures, i took the day i added to my tank.. (the 2 new ones were purchased this previous friday 6/8/12)

you can really see the silver tips in these pics right after being added to the tank

<a href="http://s1113.photobucket.com/albums/k507/Reef1589/?action=view&current=q1-2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k507/Reef1589/q1-2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I personally would've moved both purple gigs into the same tank and left the other one by itself since it appears to be doing well. There have been reports of sick gigs transferring the illness to healthly gig. I'm not saying that the purple gigs are sick, but they are definitely stressed (any time you can see the siphonoglyph I would say the gig is stressed) and I'd hate to have the healthy gig come into contact with one that may not be healthy.

The first purple gig I had (that died after 3 weeks of acclimation) looked great for the first week -- it ha nice color and good tentacle extension. Going into week two, it started inflating and deflating and had a gaping mouth. At that point it was a struggle -- some days it looked great and other days it looked terrible. Going into week four it shot off most of its nematoscysts and badly stung some of my coral, then began melting.

I'm not trying to burst your bubble, just wanted to make sure that you're aware of what cold potentially happen. Also keep in mind that gigs are not social anemones, meaning they don't clone and live in colonies (like some BTAs and magnificas). If I remember correctly, our resident chemistry expert has/had two gigs in his tank and one did a lot better than the other. You way want to do a search for his thread.

Regardless, both are beautiful and I hope both acclimate quickly for you. Nice find at a nice price! Best of luck!

ya i know the damage that could be done,t hats how i lost my haddoni :( by inroducing a new carpet to the tank with a established haddoni i had for a year, the new carpet died within a week, the established carpet died off over 4-5 weeks..

the only reason i felt safe enough to risk it was because of the tight mouths, im looking at the purple one right now and his mouth is closed, now i know 2-3 days is nothing with these animals, and if it really started goiung south i will definantly pull him out of the tank and put him in his own tank, also another reason i dont beleive it has a infection/illness of some sort (and i could be wrong on this) ... is because when i went through that before, the established carpet responded almost instantly to the new carpet and both had gaping mouths the next day.. which isnt the caise here.. but beleive me, i still will be closely monitoring them together in the same tank and if i notice the bleached one open his mouth at all at any point abnormally, the purple one will definantly be coming out.....
i really do appreciate the feedback though :)

here's a video of the one in the 150g enjoy it! :)

That is fantastic. Mind showing how you are achieving that flow?

Thanks for appreciating the feedback, I think I am addicted to gigs like you, and sometimes when you have an addiction, it takes someone else telling you something that you already know before you start listening. :fun4:

Wow! wish I lived somewhere that would get nice anemones in and sell them for a reasonable price. good luck with them.

Nothing fancy its just a Damsel Fish i got at my LFS to help cycle my tank, i went with it because it was a little more unique than the average blue/black domino damsel..

i cant really find any pictures of it on google for the propper name of it, but the closest one i can find is a "Princess Damsel"... except the one i have isnt so aggressive on the Blue.. mines more all pink and yellow, with a Dot on the back top fin.

he isnt aggressive (right now)...as other damsels, i was gonna use him just to cycle then take him back to the store, but if he remains as calm and respectable as he is, i may just keep him ...

That is a Talbot Damsel.

:) thanks i hope these definantly pull through, acclimate well and live for a long time :)

you sir, are correct, except mine does not have the black spot on the back of him, mine only has an Eye on his fine.. unless the black spot turns into the eye on the fin as they mature?.. idk.. but either way thats def next closest thing..

You got it. Also as they mature they lose most of their yellow.

Just doing my weeekly pic update for you all.... all nems seem to be settling in nicely, the purple one in the 150 still is showing his siphonglyphs... but mouth is not gaping, the purple one in the 65g shows his siphonglyphs from time to time, but not alot anymore, and his mouth is closed for the most part all the time now.. or it will sit open a little bit but not show any siphonglyphs, just is a tight open, about the diameter of a pen..

the one in the 65g is sticky enough to eat without me turning down the pumps, as well as the bleached one now, the bleached one can hold onto his food with my pump left where they are, as before i had to turn them down for him to be able to hold the food, so thats a good sign :)

onto the pics :)

Purple S. gigantea in 150g.

This picture i took about 3 days ago with my Galaxy SII, and did a Contrast edit on Instragram with it, so its not the actual color... but just wanted to show the folds it gets in it from time to time when the flow runs higher :) looks amazing
