My New 100 Gallon Shallow Rimless SPS Build

UR funny! I just bought one this week to try it out and I do like it. I've heard so much good and bad experiences from other reefers i had to try it myself. I'll be looking to get another sometime soon!

They really are amazing. The 2 MP40s in my tank are probably a bit overkill, but I think it is just perfect. I don't think it is really possible to have too much flow, unless it is targeted directly at something at close range / high velocity where it can damage tissue.

Let's see some before and after pictures with the vortechs to see how it cleaned things up

Well i took some pictures. The tank is 7 months old. Here they are and I did not photo shop the picture except crop. 1_26_2010

Absolutely gorgeous! I really like that you keep the back wall clean of coraline algae. Makes everything else pop!

Thanks! i try my best to keep the back glass clean because i think coralline detracts from the tank. I will be changing the spectrum of the bulbs in march to see if i can get more colors!:dance:

You probably ntice the tank is alittle different from the origional pics i took because i had 2 major issues in the 7 months. 1 my recirculating pump died during a vacation and i lost a few corals. 2. the last cold week here in florida my heater died causing the tank to get really cold and i wasn't paying attention because i thought the heater was working until i noticed one of the corals began to rtn.

Sorry for some of your lost, the tank still looks amazing for been 7 months. How long have had the pink square Anthias (one of my favorite). Keep up the good work and happy reefing.

Thanks! i think the tank is now recovering! i've had the anthais about 1 1/2 months now. he a pain to feed. very picky eater and he eats slow and not alot. i think i will probably lose him in the future from starvation but not from lack of trying to feed him:worried2::worried2::worried2:.

Looks a lot better without all of those powerheads everywhere. Keep it up. Now if I could just avoid stupid mishaps, mine will start filling in better.

Looking really great Nick!! Did you stop carbon dosing completely? What bulbs are u going for next-- I'm also getting ready for a switch, but I'm on 250 watters.

Reefahoy, I will come down to see your tank in person. Since the last time I was at your house, your corals have improved on colors greatly. Have you stabilize your Ca/Alk? I can see why your CA dropped, your corals are growing like crazy.

Your tank looks great. you just happen to have taken a detour. once you get that tank back in order that thing will look awesome. I can tell you are anal about your tank just by monitoring your thread:lmao::lmao::lmao:

had a major accident this weekend! When i came home sat night i thought how strange the dog wouldn't come to the door to greet me, and thought i must have came home later than i thought it was because the aquarium lights were off. while i was away, the light fixture cable came apart having the fixture crashing into the aquarium with power on! when i checked the aquarium i saw the fixture submerged in one half of the tank and the other half hanging onto the cable. luckily enough i had the lights on it's own power source knocking out power so not killing all live stock! the fixture no longer works so i had to buy a new fixture for my setup. a friend of mine loan me a light fixture until the new fixture arrives, hopefully friday. i was also lucky the tank got no damage whatsoever! it could have been alot worse! it crushed a few of my corals but now the fixture i'm replacing with is not going to be as nice as the one i lost! my power blue tang now has some ich too. hopefully he and all the other fish will recover this disaster! just a note when you attach the fixture to the ceiling and use the locks to raise the light up/down you may be loosing the screws up in the ceiling without knowing!

i will be selling a pair of bnib radium 20K 150 watt HQI bulbs that were never used or even fired. I'm gonna ask $80 locally to go to my replacement fixture that will no longer use 150 watts. :sad2::sad2:

The Reef Gods must have got you and I confused for one day - That is something that would have happened to me! Really though, as bad of luck that it is - you are sooo lucky that you didn't do more damage to your tank.

This would suck with any type of fixture, let alone when you easily dumped a $1,000+ on one. That is too bad about the Infiniti, but with the design of that thing I wouldn't be surpised if you could replace the "insides" and make use of it still. Your MH halide ballasts still good? If it is just T5 bulbs, endcaps, ballasts, and the MH bulb endcaps - it might be do-able.

Oh and the powder blue tang - you can just look at them wrong and they get ick. I actually had a separate tank just for hyposalinity for that stinking fish. Been there, done that.

What fixture are you planning on replacing it with? Too bad you just missed a great deal on a used Infiniti...

I just read your whole thread . And then to have an ending like that ! :eek1:

I hope all is well. Can you post a before and after pic of the colonies that got damaged?

Sorry to hear about the bad news but glad to hear things are on the mend. Your heart would have dropped when you saw it!

Having a light fixture fall is also a concern with my new setup too. My ceiling is concrete and I have used x4 anchor bolts to hold the light fixture up.
