My new pair, very rare import to the US

Tonight I lost the grouper. The male shark, which is now about 24 -25 inches swallowed it whole. It was ~ 14 inches and one heck of a strong fish. I am shocked. I pulled the shark from the tank and attempted to pull the grouper out. I couldn't even catch a glimpse of it staring down its mouth. Teeth are all angled backward and there is no way I was going to stick my hand in.

I may need to anesthetize the shark once the grouper is partially digested and suction or pull out with forceps what I can. I think removing the grouper as a whole would severely damage or kill the shark. There is also a good chance that the gasses that form during decomposition could also kill it.

Still in shock.

I thought of a bumble bee, but I have doubts about that too. I thought the grouper was smart enough to stay away.

BTW - not my shark.

I've always wanted to see one of these in person, but most of my customers have full reef tanks, or fowlr tanks under 200g.

Good lucking fish, congrats!!!

Recty - great vid. I think my grouper may do in my shark too. I came down this AM to find this. FYI - these sharks don't typically float upside down at the surface.

That's good you got the air out.

What temps are you running the tanks at now? Higher temps will definitely help with digestion and the food not just rotting in the gut, as I understand it, so I hope you didnt bump back down to 72 degrees like you had planned at one point.

Great idea.

Right now it is at 80F. These sharks see temps of over 90F in natural habitat. I will push it up to 84F tonight if it is doing OK.
