My sps turn brown

I would also like to agree that lighting is probably not the issue in a tank your size. I also use 175 watt reeflux bulbs on my 75 gallon and am starting to get good coloration. I plan on switching to the Iwasaki 15 K bulb at the next bulb change as they seem to be the best performing 175 watt bulb going right now ( they were not available yet when I went to the reeflux bulb ). I used to use 14 K Hamiltons but had little success with those as they have very poor intensity/PAR.

I also started getting much better results when I upgraded skimmers to a Euroreef CS 6-1 from a Remora hang on so it seems like increased nutrient removal and a bit better performing bulb is giving me better results with acro's even with the 175 watt halides.

maybe run a little phosban or add a refug

also give it time i have seen things change brown very fast and take a long time to come back to the original color

corals are differnt variations in many tank because of a lot of factors mostly water quality

I am by no means an expert so take my input as JME. I believe the #1 issue, even above lighting and water quality is patience. I bought a few frags (tenius, purple pillow, etc) which looked gorgeous in the tank I took them from - brought them home - all but one immediately turned brown and over the next few days the pruple pillow turned pale (almost as if it had bleached out). I contacted the seller of the frag and she said as long as it has high light (150w in my tank) and hi flow it will be ok - leave it alone and be patient.

I took her advise and around 4 weeks later the corals are now regaining their color very well. It appears that sometimes the corals get shocked from one system to another and need to adjust to their new environment. Good luck with this.

That is alot of noxiousness from the GSP's and softies etc...I think you should look here long before you consider anything else...its not the light
