BLockamon, do you remember the washers on your needlewheel assembly? Were they the same size, or was one at the back thicker?

mr. pluto, sorry...I don't remember exactly. I THINK that I had the thick black one in the back and the really thin one up front. To be honest, I'm not sure how much it matters because the magnets on these things are so strong. I remember one person on RC that had the ceramic shaft of an impellor (Eheim I think) break, but it still worked.

My Octopus 150. This should give you an idea about the size of the 150 Thats a 55g tank in the background. It also dwarfs the Eiffel Tower;)

nice! Thank you SW for the pics. I found the specs on the 110 on another site that carries these - and it actually has a smaller footprint than the ER-CS80 I was considering. Shipping is also very reasonable.

Even though I am about 3 months out from water in the tank, I may have to pull the trigger now before more of these 'dealers' go under.

Another weird thing is that the price of the CSS125 at this same site is about $50 more than at DF&S, making me wonder what the real price point of the Octos could be. So many on this board are quick to report the shortcomings of the CSS line that it makes me wonder how it can be priced more than this skimmer, or what it is about the Octo design which makes it superior.

too much coffee. =)

JP, no problem. I just went back and read my link again and I actually posted a link to the place I bought mine marinesolutionsinc). Their prices are great but the site doesn't include the specs on the skimmers. The place that has the specs listed is aquacave.com However, they are more expensive.

Good luck and let us know how the 110 works.

Can someone tell me what this is? It came with my Octopus 150. However, the instruction sheet makes no mention of it. Someone mentioned a muffler earlier. Could this be what they were talking about and how is it used?
Thanks

Cool - the aquacave site has the specs, but I don't think I'd order from a site with that many typos and empty links.

i repeat...who is gonna add a second needlewheel on the rps3000 and make it a true BEAST? If you were to add a second, which pump? New eheims coming out? Aquabee?

Does anyone know if our skimmers are Ozone safe? Obviously the tubing isnt, but what about the rest of it?

Also, anyone know of a cheapest place to get the sander ozonizers? I know there was some website from up north in cali that had them the cheapest, but I cannot remember where.

thanks
G

G, as for the pumps....I'd say wait for the eheim, or run another OR3700 on it if you've gotta have it now.

Are you dead set on the sanders? Enaly FTW, much cheaper if I remember correctly as well.

It is cell cast, so I probably wouldn't worry about it being ozone-safe, noone else is running ozone though them that I know of, so yes, you'd be the test subject.

On a side note, my skimmer started leaking out of the union. I must have lost 3 gallons before my fiance felt the carpet starting to "squish". Now I'm working on setting up a trough for it to sit in, along with an emergency bulkhead just incase it trys to do it again. I might have had the cup too lose, too tight, I dunno. I'm sure it was user error. I haven't got much sleep in the last week.

thanks Daniel..

yah I know about Enaly, but heard some bad things about it, plus I dont think its adjustable like the sander..

The venturi line feels like it's silicone (how's that for scientific). If so, it should be fine with ozone. The o-rings in the unions will eventually break down, but you can replace them with Viton when that happens. Would probably take months anyway.

The venturi line is actually one of my only gripes about the skimmer. Not only is it a little on the short side, its so thin my son was able to tear a good three inches off of it.

When I get my skimmer set back up, I'm going to replace it with a longer line and run it outside anyways, so it doesn't matter.

I have foam!!!

I have foam!!!

I got my Octopus 150 installed in my sump yesterday around 3/4pm and let it run all night. This morning when I went down to the basement, this is what I found:

Day 2: I'm happy enough with this skimmer that I've decided to just let it run as is. Marinesolutionsinc.com is working on a recirculating mod for this skimmer. Once that is available, I may consider it. But, it is working very well and I have about 1/2" of brown crud in the collection cup now.
