I am not going to take mine apart to take a pic of the impellar, but yes, it is very different. Seems to work just fine. The needles on the pacific coast radiate outward from the center toward teh walls of the pump. The sedras radiate vertically toward the intake of the pump. Hope that made some sort of sense.

I just noticed that http://reeftanksupply.com/index.php?cPath=38 doesn't have the pacific coast skimmers listed anymore. Does anyone know why?

Weird, they had them on the page like 20 minutes ago, I was just looking at them.

probably out of them. My lfs said the manufacturer only made X number of skimmers and didnt anticipate them selling so fast. Therefore, they are coming out with a new set in a couple months, with all Pacific Coast Imports markings on them.

I would imagine that the skimmer needs some break in time!! It may kick up the performance after a few days!!!

thanks for the clarification nikonosis thats what i thought. so the first impression is that this style of impeller works just as well as the pinwheel?

Aquamedic has been using this style of needlewheel for years, and it is the same design as that used by Gen-x pumps and the CSS

Actually for a taller skimmer as this Octopus, this needle wheel works better whereas the pinwheel NW would be better for shorter skimmers.

I found the rps3000 for 349.00 plus s/h!!! is that a good deal?

oops! its the 2000 for 329.00, my bad buddy...the 3000 is 439.00 plus s/h!

Also, my lfs said the 2000 runs better than the 3000. He said the 3000 was hard to dial in, like is old becketts. FYI

they are now selling the same skimmer that was $355 earlier today for $430 just because they are starting to get popular. *** is with that? Seems pretty dishonest to me.

THERE IS NO WAY I WILL BUY A PACIFIC COAST SKIMMER AT THAT PRICE! I can get a geo skimmer for $550, an h&s 150-F2001 for $599, or an h&s A150-F2001 for $649! Why would i Pay that much for an unproven skimmer? Why would anyone? That is just rediculous.
