BTW, see the small snails in the photo of the bottom of the skimmer? Anybody know what the heck they are? I have lots.

The snails look like baby Banded Trochus snails. The Trochus is only of the few snails that successfully breed in aquariums. I started with 7 adults of which only 2-3 are left. However, I have hundreds of babies that only come out at night. A few have grown rather large (fingernail size).

BTW, what are you using for skimmate collection. My 3000 should be here on Wednesday, and I'm trying to figure out something I can sink in the sump.

I switched from an Aqua C 180. I had that collection cup for it. it worked great for shutting down the skimmer when it was full. I had flooded my carpet 4 times previous. when i switched to the recirc 3000 i flodded the carpet once more becuase i had the skim going to a small bucket. I used a larger drain hose, used electrical tape to seal the scum lid and the air holes on the lid and now when the cup fills. it shuts down. GOOD TIMES!

BTW: all that dark scum was from 4 days. i cleaned it after these photos and the gunk on the riser tube was an 1/8" thick or more.

I have several hundred of those damn snails. they get everywhere and dont get much bigger. I dont think they are the troc's

Thanks for the tip, I might give that a shot. I'd like not to have to run the drain back to the sump.

Are your snails out during the day? Mine only come out after the lights go out. I love the little buggers, free cleaners that at too small to knock over anything (unlike the HUGE hermit my wife won't let me exile to the sump...if he gets any bigger I'm gonna bust out the butter). At least one of the snails looks like it has the clasic bands, but maybe not.

Does anyone know what GPH the pump on the RPS-2000 is rated for? Also, is there an actual venturi on the inlet like the ER and ASM skimmer pumps, or is it just a hole in straight PVC?

Condair ... that's much better looking skimmate! I'm not a fan of running it too wet because of the effect on salinity -- particularly if an auto top-up system is used.

Trmiv, its different. Venturi goes straight down but has an offshoot that heads 90 toward the pump inlet. Not just a hole straight down.

Interesting. I guess they did that because the pump is so close to the 90 elbow. I'm still waiting for the skimmer I ordered last Sunday, not sure when it's showing up since PCI sent it USPS and the postal service "tracking" the most useless thing outside of a Skilter.

USPS tracking? Whats that?

Not sure about the pump GPH but it doesnt really matter to me. Why do you need to know?

The skimmer is rated for 180 gallons.

Just curious what the pump rating is compared to my G1X I have currently. I was thinking of experimenting with the pump off my ASM to see what puts out more/smaller bubbles into the skimmer.

Who knows if I'll get around to it, but if I'm bored I'll give it a try. I was also thinking of trying one of the Gen-x needle wheel pumps.

timrv, you get it yet? This thing amazes me daily. I cleaned it yesterday and today its full of scum. No offense to the Deltec and H&S guys, they look like sweet skimmers but for that money? No way.
Am i strange to sit and watch it for 30 minutes? My wife keeps laughing at me.

Let me know Timrv.

TRMIV- I hope it comes soon! I'm waiting to order mine until I hear what you have to say about it. I've got a 5-2 sitting around here that I'll mod out if I don't get this one. Its just so damn tempting!
