*NEW* Sequence Skimmer - Any Interest?

Are you asking which feed pump to use? I personally say use whatever pump you are comfortable with using, as long as you can achieve the desired flow throught that you're after.

yes and was looking for recommendations thats all.

using a sequence 3200 to an upper floor and there isnt enough to cut out 600 GPH. I figure at 15 ft a head I get about 1700 GPH, its a 400 gallon system so roughly 4 turns or since its aged maybe 3.x

here's a question, two 1 1/2 inch drains, if I dedicated one for the skimmer, reducing to the 1 inch inlet would it be enough? I wouldnt want to ever put in a valve in the other to deflect more into the skimmer though.

if there was actually 1700 with 2 drains each drain would get 850 without any restriction, if I reduced one to end with 1 inch I probably would get down to about 600. Or would I ?

whats your opinion? I'm at a standstill thinking about it. :)

yaktop,

Everybody's gravity feed is going to be different. I have both of my returns from my 180 feeding into the skimmer at about 750 gph with an unknown amount going to the safety bypass. My return pump is a Sequence SEQ5000. I went thru at least 5 different versions of gravity feed designs until I found what worked for my set-up. For your set-up I would try feeding from one of your drains using 1.5" pipe as far as you can go before converting to the 1" inlet. (Don't forget to plumb in a bypass) That will give the feed more "head" pressure allowing you to shoot for the turnover rate you desire.

Luis

great advise. should the bypass be as high or as low as possible, or does it matter?

I got my skimmer today and have been getting it setup. This thing is freakin huge :) Anybody else have the venturi line up facing diagonal toward the skimmer box bottom? Looking at the front of the pump the venturi air valve is at about 9 o'clock. I used a ton of teflon and have it losened to about 1 o'clock but I'm guessing it's gonna leak. Any tips? And the little white screws are just a pressure fit right? They dont screw all the way thru the inside black piece? TIA

pwhitby - Thanks, I'll try it and see how it goes. And thanks for your write-up, it helped far more than the instructions.

Well I got it all hooked up and running. Other than a poorly seated union and the mini river of water it created setup wasn't too bad. Paul you were right, no leaks so far. Here are some pictures.

Next to a beer bottle for size.

I have received word that I should be expecting a prototype for a smaller Reeflo within the next 4-5 weeks. This unit will incorporate a Snapper needlewheel, rather than a Dart needlewheel, and will be smaller in diameter and in height. I will keep everyone posted on the unit as I get more updates!

Ok I have been catching up on this thread and I really dig the current skimmer! I'm afraid it would be a bit too large for my 200g (total volume) system. I started to kick around the idea of making my own, even found all the parts and made drawings. I just may wait and see how much the smaller version will run. If its under $1000, I'm sure I will buy it new, rather than making it myself.

I know its too soon to ask, but if the current discounted pricing for the full size skimmers is extended through the end of September, will the smaller versions be out by the start of October?

A leak out of one of the unions?? How did you fix it?

Amazing. I really want to see what the little ones cost and how they run too.

We are "hoping" to have an actual production model of the smaller version here by MACNA, as well as a prototype of the larger version that will be running off of the Hammerhead needlewheel pump. I will know more on pricing on the smaller version in the next week. I will have the prototype of the smaller unit within the next 2-3 days.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Do I need to clean the air valve, (controller)?
If yes, when?

Thanks.

If you are noticing it starting to crust up from salt creep, etc, then you will need to clean it. I have had mine running for quite a while now, and it has not needed to be cleaned yet.
