New to Stomatopods and looking for input

Thanks for the idea. I would be concerned about it taking up to much room in the tank. I might try some macro that is more calcium based which the urchin might stay away from.

I've been very happy with the look of the led lights and I don't really have any color in the tank yet. The shimmer is crazy and the stunners work great at night.

Tank has been doing great. Got a little diatom bloom on the rocks but that's typical for a new setup and not worried about it. I did put in some more little blue leg crabs from my other tank and they are eating it up like mad men. Parameters have been really good. Nitrates have been sitting right at 5. The zoa's are looking good to.

I picked up/rescued a little baby rock flower anemone from a LFS. little guy was all balled up, mouth gapping, and bleached. Didn't look happy and I was happy to find it as I've been wanting one for a long time.

Here he is all balled up and mouth open still the first night I put him in my tank.

The next day he actually started opening up and closing his mouth.

Hopefully it'll start getting some coloration. We'll see if it's green or red. It'll be a surprise. I was able to use a pipette to squirt some mysis on the tentacles and they stuck. He also responded right away and ate it up. So, he should recover nicely.

The anemone is doing great an still recovering. I see a slight hint of green which is ok. I was hoping it would be red. It has really settled in though and eating mysis like a champ. Here's some recent pics.

Also, got another new addition to the tank thanks to the wife. It will either become mantis bait or live happily ever after. Either way they are cheap and I think they are rather pretty. In one of the pics you can see the glimmer under it's eyes but its just white in the pics. With those LEDs their blue really stands out and that glimmer is a supper shinny blue.

Got some macro in, red flame and red gracilaria <sp>, from reefcleaners plus way to many shells. I just threw them in for now.

Nice. Did the mantis move the zoas?

I wish, because that would mean I had a mantis in the tank. :(

When I first got the zoa's on the rock the main cluster was already separating off the rock from where it looks like they used super glue. After all the moving around it finally separated. I tried laying it back on top of the rock but after a while with water current and putting more stuff in there it's floated over to where it's at now. I liked it and left it there.

I'm actively looking for a G. Smithii now so if anyone runs across one they don't want and can give me a heads up that would be great.

Well... couldn't help myself. The lfs got a blue tuxedo urchin in an I bought it. I'm sure he'll eat the gracilaria but not sure if he will touch the red flame algae as it is a calcified type of algae. I hope not but I can put macro in my main tank if I want to but not the urchin so here he is already putting on a bunch of shells

Now hopefully they are good at identifying these...

Awesome. You and me got a something nice coming :)

Glad you got it. After seeing the Smithii go unavailable after I bought it I was sure there was only one of each and looks like you got their only peacock.

To add, I wouldn't get one that is venomous because right after a molt they will be vulnerable. I wouldn't be worried about the urchin so much as the mantis giving a warning love tap and getting stuck with a nasty spine.

I'm so glad I got the urchin. I love looking to see what he has accessorized himself with everyday. He would drive me nuts in my main tank but he's perfect for this mantis tank. So far I haven't noticed him mowing down the macro yet but he sure does like to wear it.
