New to Stomatopods and looking for input

Did you get him yet? Blue Zoo called me today saying the one I ordered had died today :( . The good news is they should be getting more tomorrow

Wow, that sucks. I set mine up to arrive this friday. Hopefully they get a healthy one in for you.

I was thinking the same thing. I didn't even see if they have any kind of arrive alive policy. I assume they do?

Congrats on getting the smithii! They do have an arrive alive policy. I think they also have a stay alive policy for 7 days unless otherwise noted. It seems you, me, and sjmantis cleaned shop on almost all the mantis's (sp?) from the site. I actually accidentally ordered the orange instead of the purple spotted lol. Decided to make the best of it after I figured out what had happened and the smithii was sold out and learned all I could about the orange spotted.

Your setup looks very nice and it seems you have everything in order. I actually received my orange spotted today, and I have no complaints about quality of the stomatopod. I think you will have no issues either judging by what I received =).

Thanks. I really like the orange spotted too but I think my tank would be a bit to small and would worry all the time about it chipping or cracking the glass. :)

I guess I should say I'm sad because I have to wait until tomorrow to get my G. Smithii! Got the notification that it's shipped today and will arrive tomorrow. I'm doing a decent sized water change tonight in preparation.

Here's a break down of everything

Tank: 20g long
Full hood with reefbrite blue/white leds and ecoxotic 420 stunner retro fit into the perfecto hood light.
Subcurrent in tank filter w/ carbon and filter floss
Koralia nano water pump
Rena smart heater
~15lbs of pukani BRS base Rock
40lbs of caribsea Australian gold #1 sand

Salinity: 35ppt
pH: 7.98
Temp: 78f
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 5

Some Gracilaria and flame algae
Blue Tuxedo Urchin
Rock Flower Anemone
Looks like two different color morphs of zoas
A Mystery Polyp and looks like another tiny mystery polyp of a different type popping up
A ton of snail shells
Around 20 blue leg hermit crabs for some nice hunting and live food.
Yellow tail damsel (we'll see)

I think that's it.

So close yet so far away! The good news is you will have all weekend to watch him ;) (unless you work weekends)

We'll see if he will come out and play this weekend. Looks like it just got delivered and waiting at my front door. Good thing I'm getting off early today which is why I picked Friday for the delivery date. I thought it was pretty nice that you could pick your delivery date with bluezoo.

He's currently acclimating and I got some pictures. It's definitely a G. Smithii varient with the red intersegment lines from the indo pacific.

To bad the colors look dull in the pictures. The blue on the swimmerets are really nicely colored. The red lines look almost orangish. I'll hopefully get some better pics in the tank.

Thanks. He's hiding out under the subcurrent filter right now.
I'll have a few more pics to upload soon.

I didn't even know I had any snails in this tank and there was one on the glass. He went right over to it. I thought he was going to whack away.

But he decided to pass and ended up going around the back and of all places is hiding out under the filter.

The zoa's are doing great. Here's a top down shot through the water.
