NEW Tunze 9004 Skimmer- Unboxing and Initial Review

the 9004 wont fit in the back of the RSM 130,its a few mm too wide

it seems absolutely incredible to me that tunze would supersede a popular skimmer then alienate 90% of their market share by making its replacement too big for most (if not all) the AIO's

Roger, how long is the 9002 going to be available for? we have been told by the Australian wholesaler that its being discontinued, whether this is true or they are trying to get people panic buying i'm not sure,do you have the correct information?

9004 for now is just an additional skimmer in the range, by mid 2014 you will see where it fits in. It was never intended to replace the 9002, though the 9002 will be replaced very soon, by early next year. The replacement for it will be even smaller. All of the older Comline skimmers are being redesigned, the 9004 was just the first one to be finished as it shared a body with many other new products. 9002, 9006, 9011, 9016, 9021 are all being replaced and the replacement will be unveiled at Interzoo 2014 and should be available by fall of 2014 with the 9002 replacement being first and likely available by early 2014.

It looks like it could fit if you were able to place it in the intake sections and that is assuming the dotted line (media baskets?) are removable. The skimmer measures 4.3 * 3.5 * 12 and roughly 9" are submerged. It seems it would fit best oriented side ways in the largest compartment. You might try a google search for Nuvo 30 Tunze 9004 and see if anyone has done it and what issues they encountered.

Hi guys sorry to hijack this thread, quick question. I would really like to replace my stock skimmer in a boyu TL550 and was wondering if this would fit the back of the boyu with the lid closed? thanks!

I would either google the tank and skimmer and see if anyone else has done it, or get me the dimensions of the back compartment and we can see how it matches up.

Heard that there are micro-bubbles leaking from the side body of the T9004. Any solution on it?

Hope to get one soon.

This is true but it is mostly when the skimmer is new, after a few weeks if any bubbles leave the seam it is a very few.

I noticed microbubbles from the seam when it was brand new, and after a thorough cleaning, but they stop after a week or so.

Roger, can you tell me how much clearance is required at the bottom of the skimmer for the outgoing water?

We have between 1/2" - 2" of bottom clearance on the tanks/sumps we have them installed, and see no noticeable difference. Is venture to say 1/4" would be ok as well, but I'm sure Roger will confirm in due time.

As long as the bottom is not obstructed, it should be fine, 1/4-1/2" should be fine.

In general all that is needed is to firmly push the two body halves together, and be sure it is installed in a lower flow area. Some bubbles will exit for a few weeks but should subside.

I have this skimmer running in the sump of my 29g biocube. I was considering using it in my 20g sump for my 30g. It's nice because it takes up very little space.
