Can someone verify what size bulkheads I need to get for my Oceanic Tech 70 that is on order? I didn't get the overflow kit with mine (I think they are both 1")

Thanks,
Gary

Both holes in the bottom of the 70Tech are drilled for 1" bulkheads. The kit contains a 1" barbed bulkhead, a 3/4" barbed bulkhead, and a 3/4" universal bulkhead. The 3/4" universal is a bulkhead the same size as the 1" but the hole will only fit a 3/4" pipe and the barbed end is for a 3/4" hose. For the 70 you use the 1" and the universal. Your tank should of come with a kit. I wouldn't sweat that though and I would just build your own durso. It's possible to fit one in the 70 if you cut down the fitting about a 1/2". I might take up the issue of no kit with the store and ask that they give me store credit to use on livestock/cleanup crew/whatever you need. Here is a pic of my 70 overflow box.

So in this pic the side of the Tee is cut down a 1/2" and also the elbow pointed down is trimed about 1/2". Also the top of the Tee and the cap are each trimmed. This allows for the durso to fit well enough in the overflow and still allow you to put the lid on.

The plumbing you see behind the overflow and through the holes in the brace is the closed loop inputs and outputs.

Nice work dedfish. The cover for the overflow looks great too.

What size red dragon return pump for 120Gallon tech?

3.5, 4.5, 6.5?

Going all out huh? Give Aquarium Specialty a call. The owner can help you out as he sells them too.

Thanks, It's the cover that the tank came with only flipped around backwards to allow for the closed loop intake access.

You got ripped off! You better sell that tank as soon as possible and get a bigger tank! Wait...that's already your plan. Never mind...carry on! :-)

Hey, an update from me, after pulling all the rock back out of my tank(bout 100lbs worth) and doing some drilling and building it went from this: to this:

What do you think?

I think the new looks a lot better. I'm going to drill and build mine up as well. What did you use to drill and what did you use to hold the pieces together? Any problems drilling it wet? I was going to just use 1/2" PVC for mine but found some acrylic rods instead. I bought masonry bits to drill the rock, but haven't tried them yet. I'm still waiting for the rest of my rock to come from MarcoRocks so I haven't started it cycling yet since I wasn't sure if drilling it wet or dry would be better. I'm behind on reading thru the threads so if you already answered these questions you don't need to answer again. I'm just getting caught up on the thread.

Sweet! I like the pillared aquascape. I wish the rest of my rock order would get here so I could start working on mine. I received an email saying it had shipped and was supposed to be delivered on the 18th, but UPS still lists it as "Billing information received" which means it is still sitting somewhere and UPS hasn't picked it up yet.

Finally got pictures of my tank.

40" Maple Stand w/Oceanic 70g Tech Tank...

Aquascape. Pillar on the left will have shrooms on the left side and SPS on the right directly under the light. Pillar on the left will be for zoanthids, anchors, frogspawn, torch, gsp.

Sump and Fuge. Left to right...Aquamedic Doser; below that (can't see) are 3 1 gallor cylinders (1 CA, 1 AlK, 1 Waste Collector). Next is a 5 gallong auto top off courtesy Keith Grant. Then the sump/fuge. Deltec M500 in the rear (behind T5 lights). Fuge full of cheato. Next is a frag rack with live rock underneath.

Sump and Fuge (other side). Phosban reactor, return pump and chiller pump.

Now my new fish. Mr. African Midas Blenny (sorry, couldnt' get a good shot while swimming. Nice yellowish pink color).

And a couple shots of the Lyrtail Anthias.

Time to start on a new build. Enjoy :)

Wow! That thing is packed with a lot of nice stuff. I'm jealous!

Yea, but you got three sides low iron glass remember!:D I'd trade my top for that.

Really? My 120 didn't come with an overflow box cover.
:D

what are the dimensions on the 70g tech? i looked them up on oceanics website, and it says 36.5" x 18.5" x 25"....which is essentially the same foot print as a AGA 40g & 50g breeder, AGA 60g tall, and Oceanic 58g.

yet, i went into a LFS, and saw a tank with a "70 tech" sticker on the glass, but the footprint looked ALLOT smaller than the 40g breeder to the right of it.

can anyone confirm these dimensions?

also, would 2 x 250's be way too much on a 70 tech?
