Yea, I'm looking forward to seeing them as well, especially how you have the Vortechs set up. :)

Im not sure if Im going to eggcrate the bottom yet. Im thinking about it. I am using it now for parts of my sump construction. A piece of it will be above the fuge for my pc light to sit on, and another part on the baffle between the fuge an return to stop chaeto form going into the display. Using melev's 20L for my design, just using a 29g tank instead.

How's your sump coming along? Did you get your glass cut? I just ordered mine this morning and am supposed to pick it up Wed. I had them cut it at 11 5/8" hopefully it will come out ok.

heres a couple pics of my tank

Its coming along, I hope to finish it tomorrow. I had them cut 11&3/4 as per melev's article on sumps in this months reefkeeping magazine. I had a hard time getting the silicon inbetween the baffles, I got a caulk nozzle extension to help with that. I'll post pics hopefully by Thursday

MD, how does the tek look on the tank??

It looks great, matches really well. The legs arrived today, so I'll fit those tonight, but the 6 bulb is a perfect fit over the Tech 70. Looks nice and sleek. I'm not sure about the bulb combinations yet, I'll miss the shimmer of the MH's I think but I love the fact you can adjust the color temps with different bulbs to make the colors pop.

I'll try and get some pics done.

There's several options open in terms of adding moonlights also, either from the back of the tank or onto the TEK light itself, so I'll get moonlight shimmer at least.

I've got to get my 29g fresh moved so I can get going with this already!!!!

Are your going to do anything to cool that Tek?

Where did you get the tek? Im going to order it friday.

Any sites with deals?

I got mine from Reefgeek.com.

Cooling, I was planning on getting one of those Azoo clip-on fan arrays for the back, probably have it come on with the lights. I did get the acrylic shield though, so maybe it won't work as well with that as it won't be blowing on the bulbs directly, but it'll cool the whole housing I guess. I definitely didn't want exposed bulbs over the tank and it will cut down on some radiated heat also. The housing didn't seem to be getting too hot, but the bulbs do of course.

I'm also trying to figure out the best way to cool my Tek fixture after seeing The Grim Reefer's test results of increased PAR output. I've come across a few posts by hahnmeister, who uses a cross-flow style fan to cool the bulbs in his Tek fixture. If I have room inside my canopy, I'm definitely planning on using a cross flow fan blowing inside the shield.
Here's some links to his setup:

looking in the LA area

looking in the LA area

Just wondering if anyone knew of better prices in the Los Angeles area. According to the oceanic site there are three LFS that sell the Oceanic Tech 120 and they all charge around $900 for the tank and $600 for the stand. That can't be my only option can it? I'd be willing to drive if it's gonna save me some cash as $1500 (plus tax) just sounds outrageous to me.
Thanks!

buyer beware. There is no warranty on the tech stand, its terrible construction and oceanic does not stand behind the product.

Interesting idea that cross-flow fan option. It looks perfect for the TEK light and you won't even notice it once it's attached and on top of the Oceanic Tank. Need to sort out an AC adapter for it though.

Is this what Rob at Central Aquatics told you? This is disheartening news...:(

Joe

yes joe. He told me that there is no warranty in writing for the stand and they weren't responsible because they are not the ones that spilled the water. To be honest i dont know if i was really even looking for anything except an explaination of why they cost so much and are made so poorly. For the 500 i spent on this terrible stand i could have gotten a custom stand that would hold up under aquarium conditions. I do appreciate the help i was given by you. Thanks

I believe he's using this adapter from RadioShack. He had best results at 6v, so maybe any 6v adapter could work, but I'm not an electrical guru.

Wow my stand is built GREAT, 1st rate quality and no water damage ever even with spills. Very sorry about your damage...

I am buying the Tech 120 in a couple of weeks and was wondering what would be the better return pump? I was looking at the Eheim 1260 or would the 1262 be better?

I will be running a sump/refugium underneath and want very quite.

Thanks

I'm running the 1260, and it's plenty of flow. You could get the 1262 and throttle it back, which I believe is what LarryW had to do on his 120 Tech, with his 1262 (on his build thread).

Joe:cool:

Im hoping to set my 70 up this weekend. I am going to use a 1260 i got used for $70. I am going to dial it back with a ball valve.
