Official Board of Directors Nominations

Were going to get an early start with this...I know it might be a club first.

Please post your nominations (club members ONLY please) for the following.

President, Vise President, Tresurer, and Secretary. Memebers in the local areas may also cast a nomination for a trustee in there area.

I must stress that although these are strictly voluntary positions please make sure you have time and will have time to fulfill your duties.

If you are nominated and decide to run, a poll will be set and members will have a chance to vote on who they'd like to see hold that position.

Again members only please nominating and voting.

Well, I guess I don't see any reasons for change. I will nominate Jason, Jeremy and Brad for their current positions or than can swap around if they would rather. I guess I do not know who the fourth is?? Who is Vice President anyway, I forget? Hopefully I have that all right.

I would like to see all 3 of you in some leadership position still. Did a hell of a job with little help or recognition. Not to mention many members moving out of the area or downsizing tanks.

I'm still up in the air if i want to run again or not. With the kid on the way, i don't want to volunteer and then have to quit later on in the year. I'll probably do it, just not gonna say yes or no right now....we'll see how the swap goes.

I will volunteer to help ..... I don't know if it is a good idea to volunteer for a full board position with my current responsibilities. I can help organize events and other things whatever they may be, especially in the Des Moines area. If a board position is needed I would consider the time commitment.

I am sure somebody cares.But what does the board do exactly?Most of us chat everyday and if you have problems or questions somebody is there to help or comment.Would all this go away if we did not have a board?Most of us in the same areas know each other and get together sometimes.How often do the refers from Des Moines get together with the reffers from the eastern part of the state?

I'm not sure you realize this is just a forum on reefcentral for chatting and such. Away from this forum there is an actual club, with members and a board. That board organizes the events you may attend every year, speakers, frag auctions/swaps, local area pizza parties. Without the club/board/members we have no speakers, not events, no frag auctions/swaps.

Yes i know there is a real web site but how often or effectivly do the members in QC or CR organize things for the people here in Des moines?I am not saying its a bad idea I am saying how would it run if no one wants to do it any more would we lose are place on RC and would we all stop talking and not want to get together anymore?

The club has meeting in every area, Mitch Carl spoke a few months ago in the Das Moines area. It's not the members who organize anything, it's the board. Yes I think we would loose our forum on rc as we wouldn't be a club anymore, I'm not saying we wouldn't want to get together anymore. I am saying this club has been around for a long time and its a pity to see people stop caring. This club has brought a wealth of knowledge to so many in this hobby its just sad to me that so many wont care until it's gone.

I can tell you, as a founding member, I am not quite ready to let it die.

No, we would not lose the forum etc.

The reason you don't see thing happening in your "area" is that the club had become to spread out and it is becoming difficult to hold together.

I do still feel we need the club, I worked my rear off, as did others, to get this going. Their aren't many original members left, myself and Travis(Atticus) are I think, all thats left. But we do still have more than enough dedicated hobbyists to make this fly. I am not going to retype my thoughts on this, check out my post in this thread:

Thanks so much.I do agree with you we dont want to lose it,However i do see how people get to busy with kids and work not making excuses But between softball soccer football and dance it hard to find time for dinner .What if we had co board members to so not all the responsiblities went to each board member but the had helpers so to speak so if the person didnt have time maybe the co would have time to help organize or make phone calls things like that.

Trust me, I understand, I have the same things going on. No matter how its done, you cant make every event/meeting. Having co-members probably wont make that much difference. We have people on the board right now that are willing to do these things, but with the current setup, it takes way to long to get things done. It needs to be simplified

What about dividing the territories and having it broke into 2 smaller groups that 1 board isnt trying to cover the whole state?Then have the officials form each part comminicate to let each other know whats going on and if they want to get the 2 groups together.That way its not to much for one group tp take on .

The problem is one group is hard enough to get organized let alone two.

I personally am hating the word "die" being used today. I am here to help make sure that does not happen. I know there are many who love this society and come here every day. I know I do.

I am willing to step up to the plate and stand behind what I say. I know many others will too and will not committ to any time unless they can make it happen.

I actually think Ryan's (nielsen2773) idea of more "sub" roles might help. If I was an officer ( I am not saying I want to or should be) it would definately help to have others that would spend an hour here and there to help. That might be what Ryan N is getting at, he would help with things but can't make the committment to run it. You always have to have the one president and probabally a treasurer, but maybe the other positions could be divided into co-chairs. I am involved in running two other successful organizations and am willing to help make this one continue on.

Please other members or folks looking to join speak up. If you want a successful reef tank, this is the most important resource you have. I think we can all attest to that.

As a note I think this years officers did a great job. This is my first year, but I think they just need some more help to do the actual laborious work. My nomination stands for the current officers and my pledge to help them do whatever they need help doing.

Thanks Joel .I would be than happy to help out with what ever I can .I would love to meet more of the reefers in the local area and if Volunteering is what i have to do than Ill do it .I dont want to see the club or the forum go away I check the web site everyday as if it was my email. I would love to have local group get together once or more a month .So maybe some input to an evening maybe after the kids are in bed,meet somewhere and have coffee or sodas and just talk or answer questions???

I am assuming the current officers doesnt want to run again. I can understand as it is alot of work with little thanks. I will take whatever will help the most. Pres, vp, treas, sec, or all 4 for that matter. I think matt, jeremy, & jason are great officers, (I dont know who the 4th is).

I think coral freak, atticus, cabenn, sipe, ball, tibbs, leewebber85, phishcrazee, dascharisma, tinytool, einsteins, bgreenlee, mwood, covey, seems to be active & caring. Whether they are interested or not is another story.

Is there anyone that wants to be a part of the leadership step forward, dont be shy, you dont have to wait to be nominated.

if i was a member and i knew more i would certainly love to help/possibly take some sort of "position" but i am not and i am fairly new.

however i have a lot of time on my hands so if you need me to type anything up or make flyers or anything like that im more than willing.
