It only becomes a sickness if you think of it as a sickness and are being treated for it as a sickness, other than that I don't think it is a sickness. But then again, if you don't think it is a sickness and you get carried away with this sickness then it can become a sickness unless the people around you don't think it is a sickness. What am I saying?

Ohhh crap.... I am coming up with excuses and trying to avoid it being a sickness, what do you think that means. I think 3 tank switches to bigger tanks each time in a 3 year period speaks for itself, I don't have the sickness, I am just trying to stay active & not bored which is better than doing drugs and may even cost less than drugs. No to sure on that one.

I see yours now Todd, as well as Doug 2.0.1

I got 5 notifications.

EDIT: And now I can post to this thread again.

Yeah that was weird. I was getting multiple notifications on Marc's post, but couldn't get into it myself. Big brother at work??? So here is my belated post!

uh, guys...17,000+ and 6,000+ posts on just one reef forum really does catagorize you as having a sickness of some sort. But for those who believe that alcoholism is a sickness, I disagree about that too. Reefing is a hobby, that like all other hobbies, can breed technoweenies faster than a chicken farm. I remember detailed discussions about shaving grams when I was a mountain biker...is that really an illness, or perhaps a special code used by men to retain a thumbnail's worth of their former head-of-the-herd self?

When does this hobby become a sickness? Read the post above mine.

I don't think there is a cure for it either!!!!

What forum are you talking about with the 6000? I just checked another forum that that guy is on, and he has 13,511 posts over there too. What about rec.aquaria.marine.reefs? Or email over the years?

I can't even get involved with aquaria newsgroups. It's just too much info. for me to digest. I just made my mock up of the return manifold and set it approximately in place. I figure if I look at it few hundred times, I may actually install it in the correct place the first time.:D

Yes, that should work out eventually. Plus each time you explain it to us, you increase your post count. I bet you'll hit 1000 posts one day. :D

No comments yet on my odd way of clamping the 1/2 x 1/2 seam acrylic? I figured I would get a lot of questions about that!

You have any pics of the equipment that will support that monster? The pumps, how many, skimmer how tall?

tank is huge.. I love it. Keep up the quality work.

Marc: Only way I could figure out to clamp them into the corners with a somewhat uniform pressure spread out over the length (4 feet) of the piece. I jammed in the styro and it worked OK although I did melt some of the styro.

jbirdjjones10 Pics of equipment? Uh, I posted a pic of the return pump...I am only using one Sequence for return. All other flow will come from IceCap power heads. I am building the skimmer and calcium reactor so no pics of those yet. I was going to post pics of the lights and related equipment, the ACIII Pro etc, but realy, who needs to see that? It's all off-the-shelf stuff.

I do have an interesting skimmer mod that I can't wait to build and share, but the rest will be run-of-the-mill large items. BTW, it's not "how tall" your skimmer is, but how you USE it!:D

PS. I am not even using any calculations to build this system. everything is guess work from my observations of other systems on RC.

survey?

survey?

Quick in-thread survey: How many reefers are using sealant on their BHs? I know in the marine business every thru-hull fitting is seated in never-come-off sealant like 3M 5200.

If you use sealant, which one and how do you apply it?

Cool, Cant wait to see it finished..

I used black AGA silicone to seal my BH's. Seals real good and you can remove it it you have to in the future.

Thanks

Edit, O, i put the BH in and on the back side before I put the nut on, i ran a large bead to fill the gap between the BH and the glass. Than i tightened the nut down which squeezed the excess out and wiped clean.

I would actually go with sch40 BHs and no sealant. Once you actually tighten a 40 vs. a cheaper 80...there really is no difference whatsoever. Make sure the gasket is on the "wet" side. Hand tighten then 1/2 turn more should be fine!
