I am still trying to find a place that has either Southdown or OldCastle playsand...

There seem to be infrequent sightings, but I REALLY need some of this sand!

Anyone know where to get it?

Thanks!

:D

As best we can tell, it is no longer available. A number of people have said they have used the premium white play sand at Home Depot. I have 5 bags of it going in soon so hopefully they are right!

LOL,

The vinegar test is a test to see if the sand has a buffering capacity...

Just take a spoon of sand, and put it in a half cup (glass) of vinegar. If it starts to fizz, even ever so slightly, it passes.

If not, then its just regular sand.

Vanish,( K A P U T )....No longer exist ! What they sell now are all SILICATE sand.:( Good luck finding it...........PEACE

Elsewhere others have said te buffering capacity of sand is overrated (beats me if it is or not). But the sand is apparently safe to use in a tank for a DSB from what I have read. Sure hope so.....

Heres an alternative,go to Fox River Stone in S. Elgin grab some pulvarized dolomite stones.
