ORA's Hawkins Blue not an A. Enchinata

Yep that was what I thought. Here is my fairly large colony. You can definately see the similarities though again just a guess.

Mine grew best under 150w phoenix until I carelessly let it get shaded by the green leather behind it. It started receeding and never quit:thumbdown sorry I take bad pics!

a 15 buck leather next to that piece? no chance bro, i woulda ripped that sucker out long ago. It killed a 300 dollar piece at minimum

live and learn for size ref on the Hawkins the leather is 12" across in the pic.

All I had to do is trim it, but I didn't....live and learn. It's since had several haircuts:D

No disrespect to seminolecpa, but I have a hard time with ORA Hawkins being a turaki. That is a marvelous colony he has though. Fabulous job growing it out like that.

My buddy's turaki has way more purple than any hawkins I've ever seen. While the hawkins is lovely, the turaki is stunning. And somewhat more tempermental, as many truly awesome corals seem to be. ;)

I don't know what exactly it is(I also thought turaki), but I think ORA has a few they do call by the wrong name. Here is what my ORA Hawkins frag has tunred into so far:

How long have you had that piece? Looks awesome BTW.

Thanks, I got it as an ORA frag from the LFS a year and a half ago. For a long time it was browned out and not growing much. I dipped it in Revive when I first got it, a lot of people say it doesn't like that too much. Could be why mine browned out for several months.

Color really has nothing to do with the species. Who is to say that Turaki only comes in purple? You identify species by structure, shape, polyps, coralites etc.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though and most of us aren't scientists....

None taken whatsoever. I was purely guessing. I will say with some certainty that it is not an echinata. Turaki is the closest that I can find in all of my books and research.
