OT Ready for Some Snow?!

I actually had 3 different MOSs while I was in...13B (Artillery), 54B/74D (Chemical), and 31B (MP). None of my jobs in the military set me up for anything in the real world unless I want to be a cop or a terrorist... so off to school I go. I didn't go in until 2000, and got out in 07. Not a good time to be in.

Ryan, Durham has had flurries since 7am, solid dusting on everything but the traveled roads.

Swannyson, my Dad had the same issue - tank turret repair or something like that. Not too many companies around that do that. My grandfather was a regular mechanic at the end, but he started in the horse cavalry. Some pretty neat stories about having to qualify with his sidearm at full trot. Not to mention some really cool pix (like him in front a of [the destroyed] Hitler's house). He came out and was a mechanic.

They taught me the Sun UNIX computer systems, and since I was instructor qualified, I taught them for my last two years before getting out. Right into a civilian job working on those same computers in the late 90's when business was good. Still at the same place 13 years later. Started ETS leave in Nov '96, started here in Dec '96, but was in until Jan '97 collecting pay. Those two months were nice double dipping. :D

I have a 6-8 page motion for summary judgment due Thursday night. My problem is, of course, that despite school getting canceled for tomorrow night, I work from home, and STILL have to work. :wildone:

Being "back in college" ain't all it's cracked up to be... :celeb3:

tell me about it...
9 pages on how leonard cohen's use of the name "Lili Marlene" changed the reading of his song "Famous Blue Raincoat"

and yes, i managed to pull it off

Docimo, im at storrs... and theres not even a dusting yet

This is shaping up to be like that last big storm where they were saying 12+ inches. I wound up with under 2, but I must admit it was definitely the best 12" of snow I ever shoveled!!!

Friend of mine north of Philly thought it was lame at noon too. Says they've gotten 12-14 in the past five hours. As much as I want to say "there is still hope" I'm thinking "it ain't comin'."

Friend in MA just said the weatherman apologized on air for the forecast.

better be Goodyear tires!

I wouldn't run Goodyear tires.

Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS for 3 seasons and Semperitos (off brand owned by Continental) for winter. I picked these up used from a buddy. They are ok. Nothing special. Once these winters are worn it will be Nokians or Blizaks.

I have the Goodyear MT/R's on the Bronco (yeah, apples and car washes), but don't so much like them either in the wet - they push alot, especially over cross walks and other such surfaces.

We have Blizzaks on the Audi A4, and they are great. Not cheap, but we weren't looking for cheap, we were looking for traction.

We have about 5" here in Durham, right now, and we're getting about 1/2" to 1" an hour for the past two hours or so. Took all day to get the first 1" but it's picked up since about 5. I'll have to do something with the driveway in the morning despite mud terrain and snow tires - the bike does not do so well on snow. :rolleye1:

why wouldn't you run Goodyear tires?

We got about 5-6" here in Stamford.. supposedly its supposed to snow some more?

I think there are better products out there that offer more value for the same or less cost.

I had good year RSA's on my Maxima and I wasn't all that impressed with them. After that I ran both Dunlops and Bridgestones. I've been very happy with bridgestone since. Call it brand loyalty or what have you, but they make a product that I'm happy with. The OEM Bridgestone RE92's that came on my Legacy GT were good in the dry, but not all that impressive in the wet or snow. The RE960 A/S that I run now are great. They stick like glue.
